Doughty and spend cap

I'm not certain about this but surely the decision to let Doughty go was about wages and also doing the right thing by the player. The club had no choice really. If we are limited to 75% of our L1 revenue and that excludes parachute payments then I don't see how we could keep Doughty at circa £1M per year. Relegation really messed things up for us.

I think everyone knew he was going. Just if 3m is true, that’s a steal. It’s also the way it was handled. I think most of the fans’ complaints about communication have been way OTT, but this really was amateur hour.
No surprise he was off, way too good for league 3, surely £3 million not right though (closer to 5) Good luck to him, poor Comms from the board. That goal at QPR.
Yeah I would’ve thought 5 would be the figure we’d have had in mind.
Someone mentioned the other day our haggling over a few 100k when signing players, but then letting our players go for under their value. There’s something to this, I’m guessing it’s because of our philosophy of not standing in players ways when we’ve developed them and they want to move on.
The apparent sensorship of the Luton News seems absolutely mental. Fingers crossed the club will clarify their position this. Our new Commercial director is having a fucking stinker so far.
As for Doughty I also agree that his time was up. It's another good move to get a player, who hasn't wanted to really be here for a while, off the books.
Annoyingly they're not. We get a small payment from the Champ but the £30+M from the EPL can't be used. That's my understanding from looking into this when we went down. BHam seemed to spend a lot so they either have much higher turnover than us or it's a new rule..
Parachute payments aren't classified as Relevant Income, but they are classified as Football Fortune Income.
From my understanding, and a discussion on here the other day with Ramridge and ELH, clubs are allowed to use 100% of Football Fortune Income on top of the Relevant Turnover to calculate what they can spend on wages.
If they're not allowed to be used, it's completely unworkable and ridiculous, what's the point of them!? There is no way we can go from a £60m wage bill to one that is based on a relevant income turnover of probably £10-£15m in two years. We would completely breach it otherwise.
"Football Fortune Income". Well I'd completely missed that if that's a thing. We should be able to complete with everyone in L1 AND Champ for wages then !!!
