    Alfiegate

I feel sorry for Mike Simmonds on this one.
I would speculate that Millwall made an offer, and we gave permission for him to talk terms. Once that is communicated to him probably by GS, and likely in the stands just before the game, there is no option but to withdraw Alfie from the squad.
The discussion with Millwall probably included a mutual agreement to ‘keep it quiet’, as a deal was by no means a certainty. MB was told to ‘keep it vague’ - he did his best (!) but left some wriggle room for Mike to report transfer speculation. LT are left embarrassed and ask for a retraction from Luton News to spare our blushes with Millwall.
Everyone knows that ‘felt something’ is a euphemism for contract talks…
If and when, Alfie is sold to MFC, then this is all going to seem a bit OTT, but I can see how it happens. The sooner Friday comes the better! We can focus on the green where things are much simpler.

It really is p*** poor by the club to be honest. There was no need whatsoever for this mess, and it needlessly creates something new for people to moan about. I'm normally happy to give the Board the benefit of the doubt but this is just a stupid own goal and they need to get their act together on communications ASAP.

I think it runs deeper than just avoiding criticism.

Mike is due a public apology at the very least.

Agreed on all this, but neither Bloomfield nor Simmonds were specific about which club had made an offer - there was speculation yesterday Doughty was off to Millwall.
Given there was no “It’s Millwall, by the way!” in Simmonds’ report, especially given nobody at all believes the “injury” claim, the club just look stupid and petty in demanding the retraction.
It also makes it harder to believe Bloomfield’s future comments, which can’t have been the aim. Considering communication had started to improve, this is a bizarrely stupid move by the club.

TBF, this is the same club who only a few weeks ago were searching for a leak within the club for leaking the match format and players involved for a pre-season friendly without realising it was Matt Bloomfield on the club's official youtube account.

There must be a proper Karen somewhere within the club.

Spot on. Another step backwards if true and I'm not clear why MB would spoil his credibility like that.

Sorry “speculation about Bristol City yesterday,” not Millwall.

Talk about a storm in a teacup.

Ordering a local journo to make himself look daft in order to not piss Millwall off seems a bit much.

As others have said, the potential clubs were not named so shouldn't really have pissed off any other clubs. Despite this, surely all clubs "leak" this type of information to generate an auction?

It’s definitely not a good look.

Everyone knows he’s our most valuable asset and would likely have left, simply saying “we’ve had some transfer interest for Alfie, so we took him out of the squad” would’ve caused a whole less fuss than what has happened since.
