    Outlaws IT help

    Posted by LTFC39 on 26/7/2025, 7:38:09

I was travelling this week and recently went onto a new network provider.

Unable to use Outlaws because the “connection is not private” and the network is denying access even after trying to override it, essentially for security reasons.

Fine on WiFi everywhere but clearly not always an option.

Presumably this is a Boardhost issue.

    Any ideas?

Not with Outlaws and other bookmarked sites but, a couple of days ago, I started getting messages from Microsoft Dwfender saying that Microsoft Edge is not a safe site. There is an option to ignore the message and continue to the site but it just brings up the same warning.

The only way to get into the official site is through the link at the top of Outlaws but I can't get into things like bank accounts so have to do everything on my mobile which is annoying as I sometimes want to print the confirmation page.

You should be able to print from your phone if you've got a wireless printer as long as they're connected to the sane WiFi network.

I’m not an IT expert but had you tried googling said bank and seeing if it let’s you on that way?

Yes and it doesn't. That's when I get the warning. I don't have them bookmarked, unfortunately.

Generally (no expert) means there is not a valid security certificate.

I’d be surprised in boardhost did not have.

It's odd that you can't override it. On iphone/Ipad/Macbook, when I get that initial message I have to press 5 buttons to see the website with the last one reading "Are you sure you want to visit this website". Even then the website does not load 100% - some photos are often blanked out but the rest is there and can be accessed.

Don't know much about Android. It was in it's early days and not very popular when we had enough of microsoft and switched to apple. What laptop do you have?

chromebook and using chrome as search engine although others work as they should. google app store is superb for every conceivable requirement and microsoft files automatically convert. So unless you are a business user that has invested in dozens of screens then you get functionality without paying silly prices and putting up with apple and microsoft foibles.

Many thanks both. I was sucked into the apple hype at the time so I'll do some research now I'm getting near replacement time.

Ditto. I do all my work on a Chromebook using Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets. It's free, straightforward to use once you've got the hang of it and without all the abundance of excess functions no one ever uses clogging up your system. Piece of piss compared to Microsoft and I don't even know where to start with apple, overhyped and overpriced bollocks.

                                  Yep

Win 11 is the only OS I've had where - unless you use scripts or registry hacks - I can't fully stop it updating. It's only gaming that keeps me on Windows, but PC gaming is getting far too expensive to keep up with so my future looks like Linux and a PS5.

I had an 'upgrade' notification last week, Microshaft are forcing a 'better' Win 11 version on me, and it's a complete O/S rewrite and install of the new version - 24H2 or whatever - complete with all the crap I don't want but probably can't remove.

I've paused it for 5 weeks but doubt I can pause it after that. Currently swapping files about on 3 hard drives so I can have a free partition to instal Linux when . . not if . . it all goes pear shaped.
