Bloomfield's choice of Naismith as captain

Makes the decision not to select him for the shambles away to West Brom even more bizarre.

West Brom was disappointing but the reason we went down was because we were shit for most of the season. There are about 10 games I can think of where our own stupidity cost us 1 sometimes 2 points.

A lot of mistakes were made. All season. Making Naismith captain is at least showing Bloomfield is capable of acknowledging this and trying to learn from them.

I| still maintain that if he had started and we had lost, those questioning him not starting would have moaned about changing a winning team (I know that Clark started instead of Fanne but he had replaced him during the previous game).

What I don't understand is Naismith not being brought on earlier than he was although the game was, effectively, lost just over half an hour into the game.

I don’t believe that our best midfield could include both Clark & Walsh and since Clark was/is the better and more reliable player it was a mystery to me why Fanne & Naismith didn’t play that game, particularly given how well we did at Derby with that team. It is, of course, now irrelevant what happened at WBA as we move on, but I like to think the lessons have been learnt. The decision to make Naismith our captain is, I think, a realisation of that fact.

It would have been changing a winning starting team, but Naismith did come on at HT v Coventry (because they were down to 10 men rather than for defensive solidity admittedly).

As much as I try to forget that day, the one thing that lingers is seeing Naismith almost begging to be substituted on.

Unfortunately I am unable to erase that day from my memory.

A five all draw would have kept us up. It "could" have happened.

It wouldn't have been the first time that West Brom had drawn 5-5 on the last day of the season.

We hit the woodwork late in the game. From memory, it was 5-3 at the time. If that had gone in, it would have been an interesting last few minutes.
