    Our lack of spending

Posted by Hatterchatter on 25/7/2025, 12:18:24

Is going to cost us again. We had the money last season and didn't spend and look what happened, I can see it happening again. Looks like we just don't learn. £40 million parachute payments this season plus the sales of Kaminski,Morris and Hashioka and we've only spent £1 million
Come on Sweet stop being such a tight bugger

You can offer big bucks for anyone, but the biggest stumbling block is convincing all these big goal scoring ( that posters on here are experts in) forwards to come play for a league 1 club. Get real, we are not a big league club at the moment....

You're right, we're back in the small time. The unfortunate consequence of relegation is that once again we are worrying that big league clubs will pinch Alli, Doughty, Aasgaard, Morris etc.

We just have to suck it up. With the squad as it stands, we should have a decent crack at the top 6. But there's no point just overpaying for a striker in panic. We possibly did that with Nordas and now we don't appear to be convinced by him.

True, and yet many scoff on here when options from League 2 are mentioned.

Don’t get me wrong I would sooner we spend some money on a striker from leagues above and get sorted this ASAP but if we are aiming too high at what point do we acknowledge and change track?

7 games to play in August, we must hit the ground running this season.

Ww are in a catch 22 situation if the Cuba spends big money on a striker, said player will want big wages, which is what has caused multitudes of problems on the past. The club has to run as near to break even as possible people talk about this 40 million like its something we will have regularly, it's a one off atm

Loans depend on a deal some come unstuck at this level we get a 20 year old unknown scores 12 goals goals gets recalled on the last day of Xmas window so our 50k is down the swanny

I’d bite off that kind of return at £500k…..even for half of season.

Interested in what your approach would be then?

Second half of the season in mediocrity fans moaning that's why loans at this level are precarious,we already have two, both with options to buy, another like that would be ideal, personally I would like to see one or two of our own youngsters given a chance

We have just loaned our next choice to Tranmere Rovers so that looks unlikely.

We have others remember the18s did a double last season if we get one to come through then that is a success

Which is why I originally suggested Cheek or Alassana Jatta.

And a younger striker from the PL on loan.

Limiting ourselves to purchasing a Lowe or a Kelman (if that is what we are trying to do) is highly risky if they end up saying no.

As I said yesterday, a lot only become available late in the window when the PL clubs have done their trading and know what they have got in the squad.

                    Yes fully agree.

I would go for Cheek, Jatta or as last resort Langstaff

(IF we are having no joy with the other targets)

And wait for PL loan in due course.

agreed plenty of time although I would have thought sooner rather than later works best. 20/20 are inherently risk averse which is fair enough - they rescued the club when virtually out of business. Sadly modern football dictates big spending even in L1. If it was not for the big new stadium it would not even matter - who cares what League we are in? But I don't think L1 will pay the heating bills at Power Court
