Striker/goals

Arguably the area we needed to strengthen the most.
How on earth are players like May, with proven goals, getting snapped up by Huddersfield.
We need at least two decent attacking options, particularly if he’s going to play one up top, which the outgoing Morris was capable of doing so but the current crop aren’t.
Come on, last push! Don’t be naive, again.

I think we will sign someone better than May with more of a future. The journey leads you to the answers..

So talking about Luton and football is now causing ‘unrest’
Can only imagine you’re one of the precious and protective ones who can forgive abject failure easily. We’re really vulnerable on the goal front and we should have seen better action by now.
You’re talking crap on both counts - NJ had no control over May at that point. He wanted away for his family and Blues offered big money.

Alfie May 97 goals since 2020 Wells 45 goals all be it at a higher level. Wells a few years older. I fear it is a great signing for Huddersfield who look like potential favourites imho

I believe that Birmingham, went all out to get him from that plucky little sarf London club last season....
Maybe, but I remember being lectured on here about how they had got it right last January . . . and it did look like they had done some good things . . . but they dropped like a stone in the end.

They've had about 12 weeks to come up with an answer to our severe lack of attacking options and have spent the grand total of fuck all coming up with an answer.

The CF situation will tell us if Sweet/2020 are serious about promotion IMO. Either they try and do it on the cheap, or loosen the purse strings, go hard and sign a player more likely to get us the goals than a freebie. We've spent fuck all on players for 2 years now(if you take into account fees received) and that's one of the main reasons we've had successive relegations.
It's all well and good them talking up an 'exciting transfer window', put your money where your mouth is.

The answer to that ,looking at the window so far is plain to see
The cheap option is always Sweets favoured choice If you can take the credit you must accept the blame

Or maybe people need to appreciate that the more you pay the greater the risk that it's going to be a horrible waste of money.
Feel free to blame Sweaty, if you like, but I think the tradition is longer standing than his involvement. Simon Davies, Ovengloves, the little pisshead from Hartlepool who's name I've studiously forgotten...

Who do you suggest? Most teams at all levels could do with a 20 goal striker. But we have stopped producing them in UK. Possibly because of modern coaching ..

Well Al Hamadi and Lowe have been linked (genuinely or otherwise) and are both prolific at the level below and have championship experience too, with potential to improve further. They are also the sort of profile that would be effective if we were playing one central striker. Clearly there will be other suitable options but I’m not paid to watch football full time so I’m not aware of them.

Look at the Championship top scorer list last season. Who are the traditional centre forwards. I'd argue Piroe is a false 9, Brownhill a midfielder, Sainz a wide player, Windass an attacking midfielder etc. Sargent is probably as close as a traditional centre forward that you'd find and he finished 4th. With 15 goals. Piroe was top scorer with 19 goals. And it wasn't like there was a dearth of goals in that league last season. Most teams are now just less reliant on one guy scoring a goal every other game. Wide players are expected to score more now than in the past. Depending on a centre forward to bang in
Re: Striker/goals
Posted by Sandgrounder on 21/7/2025, 18:49:15, in reply to "Re: Striker/goals "
Piroe is definitely a CF not a false 9. Sergeant scored his 15 goals from 32 games. If he’d played a full season he’d have smashed 20 goals. Oh, and we’re not in the championship, sadly

That's the point though. If you need to watch full time, to find the CF everyone wants, then there must be a lack of them..
