End of an era

Just about to pick my youngest up from primary school as the last of the Godders clan to leave that stageof education. All in big school or college from September. Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.

When my lads were that age, Bedfordshire had a three-tier system; Lower 5-9, Middle 9-13, and Upper 13-16/18. It’s nearly 40 years since my youngest left Lower School.

Central Beds still has that system. My nine year old granddaughter has her last day at junior school today before starting middle school in Sept.

No it doesn't. Well Dunstable doesn't anyway (except Priory school who refused to change). I'm intrigued as to where that actually is. Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.

There are still schools in Bedfordshire that have the 3 tier system. On a sidenote, its the same in parts of Staffordshire.

Luton Senior Schools went from 11-16 50 years ago.
Dunstable had the system you describe when I left school in 1984.

Yes, I know. I was one of the first year group to go to Sixth Form College.

Have you been there recently? It's more like a prison, all fences and cameras. --------------- Make burgers wider, not taller

I was just pointing out the Bedfordshire didn't have a three tier system in its entirety.

Luton has been separate from the rest of Bedfordshire since 1964, hence different school years, and even school holidays.

Before that as well. I started at the Tech in 1961; the school year for Luton started a day later than Barton Primary; the crossing lady at Barton told me off for strolling round the shops when the Barton kids were at school.

I think Bedfordshire had that but Luton didn't. I'm a similar age to your sons and changed schools at 7 and 11.--------------- Make burgers wider, not taller
