Undeniably dogshit. But let’s not pretend shit pens are exclusive to the women’s game. Or did none of us go to that one where we missed every pen in (iirc) the League Cup about six years back?
Not trying to make excuses but the pressure the players were under was something quite unique to them. Usually they are playing in front of a few thousand with a limited tv audience.
18-year-old Smilla Holmberg took the final penalty for Sweden when more experienced players refused to step up.
Her reaction to the miss left me choked up. She was shocked and her face and body responded like a child would. Imagine your daughter in that position. She will need to be very tough mentally.

That was a harder save for the keeper than Lawless's one in same shootout, but at least Lawless didn't attempty something fancy in that situation and fail.
