Maybe you should have told his predecessor Kodak Dave.

Not under this stupid new system that has added yet another level of bureaucracy to local politics. I voted against the introduction in Bedford. Maybe there should be an extra option on the ballot paper - scrap the position.

Are you saying that Sadiq Khan, Andy Burnham, Ben Houchen etc aren't political voices?

City mayor's are different to jumped up councillors who want the symbolic role for status purposes

It's not a symbolic role nowadays. It's part of the political system which has far too many layers.

There used to be a symbolic Mayor of Bedford but it is now an elected role which is completely different.

Mayor of Luton is still a symbolic role, selected by other councillors, and the one's if known in recent years are not " jumped up councillors".
They may do it for status but attend well over 200 events a year, and therefore lose out on other income, and stand down from other prominent roles to fulfil their duties.

I wish that Bedford still had a symbolic mayor rather than an elected one.

The current Mayoress of Luton attends a couple of home games a season, but I'm doubting she'll be in the Oak Road this season.
