    Aasgaard

I'm sorry to see him go, but what a surprise to read the full, transparent and open statement from MB on the Club's official release, giving the reasons why it's happened.

After the utter shambles of the past 18 months, it's like a breath of fresh air reading that statement, and more importantly that the words come from MB.

At last some openness, hopefully things might continue in this way, obviously it won't always be possible, but perhaps it's something MB has asked for 🤞.

It eradicates all the speculation and supposition, and in this case, the nastiness on here towards the player.

I agree that it's helpful to read that explanation from MB. Because otherwise the club is between a rock and a hard place: stuck with a load of players who underperformed last season and we want out but can't easily get rid of because of long and expensive contracts, but also vulnerable to losing our better players who don't fancy L1. Contracts must mean something.

Surely Doughty won't have the same clause as Asgaard? He's on a big, fresh deal and should be told to stay and get on with it.

We are normally so good at sorting contracts….why we allowed him to have a release clause when we were bottom of the table seems a bit amateurish at best.
We are in danger of losing all our best players….

It did make me chuckle a bit when you confidently stated that there's no way that he'd have a relegation release clause in his contract when he signed for a team in a relegation fight.

You do know that there can still be a stipulated fee, though, right.

No, of course you don't. Give it about 14 months and Dr Ince can explain it for you.

Evening ….you still smarting after making yourself look a complete dick the other day….hopefully you have now managed to work out how the Ross transfer worked after having several people explain it to you.

Yep I certainly got that wrong ….surprised we did it tbh as imo a mistake …see what I did there admit I got it wrong …give it ago some time champ.

I guess you need to believe that's the case but I could also believe that you actually don't understand that what happened was that Dr Ince explained what you hadn't been able to describe for over a year.

I still think it's complete bollocks, btw. My money would be on there being a £5m relegation release fee but I'm not unwilling to entertain the possibility that Villa are that poorly run that they'd pay £5m that they didn't need to. Kind of makes you pleased that Sweaty's at our helm, right.

Whichever is the case, my point does still stand that there is value in not publicising everything and that not doing so creates doubt which we can exploit to our advantage.

I was never arguing the point that we should publish all details …I agree we shouldn’t. Also regularly praise Sweets negotiating skills.

However I do think we fucked up with Aasgaard….maybe offer him a bit more money and say he can’t have a release clause….good chance he would still have come.

Instead we put him in the shop window , got relegated , guessing but seems we barely got our money back and now need to find a replacement…not great business.

As MB clearly states - he wouldn't have come otherwise.

"In order to sign him in January we agreed to a conditional release clause – something that this club has only ever done in exceptional circumstances – which only got triggered in the event we played League One football this season."

Maybe he wouldn’t have done but offering him three times the wages he was on at Wigan would probably still swayed him.
Players often ask for a pony when all they want is a kitten …having said that we were in such a monumental mess at the time he probably could have asked for a whale !!

I rather like Bloomfield’s little dig at the “qualifiers” and make no mention of the SPL.

Are Rangers anywhere near good enough to progress???

Of course they are. He's going to be playing in some huge games up there in front of passionate supporters. I fully expect him to be in the PL following a big money move in a couple of years.

Let's hope so, because this sounds like we may get a percentage of that big money move: "his future success will benefit the club greatly going forward."

                        Really?

                        Limited and one footed.

Why does 17 games for us suddenly make him a world beater?

Talking about PL big money moves.

Wigan were 17th in League 1 when we signed him and he really didn’t do enough to be classed as outstanding in the 17 games with us.

Decent player but we have seen the PL up close now and he is too one footed and one paced.

Time will tell but there was a reason Liverpool released him and it’s taken this long for his value to rise.

He's 22 years old, already had a couple of multi million pound transfers, will be playing European football for one of the biggest clubs in Britain and on his weeks off he goes and has a kick about with Erling Haaland for his country.

We'll agree to disagree but, as usual, I'm right.
