Aasgaard - kick in teeth
Posted by Ninja on 3/7/2025, 17:40:12
What a joke that we buy a young promising player in January and lose him by July for a few million profit. One of the few decent signings in recent times too.
Exactly who we should be building a team around.
Maybe we can’t keep him if he wants to play higher, but just compounds the shit show that has been the last 12 months or so.
Players like Mengi and Doughty can do one, not him.
So frustrating.
We need a really bright few weeks or this is going to be a long season.
Exactly he was the one bright, intelligent, creative player we have wanted for years and I was so looking forward to watching him. So what if we make £2 million on it Wigan will take half of that I imagine. It is a very poor reflection on how matters were handled off the field last year if he does go.
We bought Aasgaard to play in the Championship. Nobody thought we would end up in league one at the time. Now we are suffering the consequences. Player loyalty doesn’t exist anymore so players will look to further their career. Rangers are a massive club, regularly playing and doing reasonably well in Europe. It guarantees him international football too. I just hope in his case we have a decent sell on figure in the contract. Our target players aren’t at the same level now we are in this league. It doesn’t mean that we can’t find players with the potential to play at a higher level. I also think we should go into the loan market which has proved to be successful for a number of clubs.
Do we need a decent sell on figure in the contract at present, as he is only a few months in to his contract and therefore we don’t need to sell him, unless we get a really good fee we find acceptable. Having said that the experience of keeping unhappy players last season perhaps suggests we shouldn’t keep him. However, hopefully he would have a better attitude than some who didn’t get the move they hoped for last close season.
I think the reaction and extreme disappointment from the fans at our relegation was based on the fact that we believed we would turn it around, especially after Edward’s departure. In the end we missed out on goal difference. As a supporter you try and remain optimistic until there is no chance of surviving. I always believed there were three teams worse than us and potentially a lot more. It’s not just the first half of the season we grossly underperformed. After Edward’s departure I expected some reaction but it didn’t happen until March. If you believe your team is getting relegated in January then what’s the point in going to games!
The phrase ‘nobody thought we would go down just isn't true though. Yes you’ve got to have the mindset of staying up but RE and the recruitment screwed us, it was always going to the wire with the changes coming so late. A huge risk and there were a lot of people nervous and a significant risk of going down.
That’s why Aaasgaard going is a kick in the teeth - we can’t build a great team around someone who was playing at Wigan last year. Such a fall from grace.
If you believe your team is getting relegated in January then what’s the point in going to games!
To get pissed with mates in different towns. To get behind the lads on the pitch(until they perform like wankers) To get away from the missus for a day.
It was quite easy to see a beer belly, which for a pro footballer on 10s k per week, is an utter disgrace. His physical fitness also matched his complacency levels.
Although he was contacted to us for 3 years. Quite what the Norwegian manager thinks has any relevance to our business transaction is beyond me. Shall we allow any third party to dictate to us from now on ? Ridiculous
Spot on….Norway don’t pay his wages we do. Fucking ridiculous statement….if he is good enough then he will play for Norway no matter what league he is in.
