Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
Posted by Sandgrounder on 3/7/2025, 14:47:18
Hits
Barkley Ogbene Mengi (great for most of PL season and ultimately we’ll make a profit on him) Aasgaard Alli Makosso
A ‘Hit’ rate of 6 out of 24, or 25%, which seems… low. Need to be running at a hit rate of at least 50% really, though McGuinness, Fanne, Walsh and Jones could move into the Hits column with good seasons (if they even stay).
Re: Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
Nordas is more of a jury's out, I wouldn't have him as my first choice CF but he might yet come good. Over the 2 seasons Mengi is only average. Holmes is not a miss, he was one of the few that showed any fight and determination last season.
Re: Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
You obviously didn’t watch his defending for the goals away at Oxford, although he was not alone in that respect being joined by the other centre half that night Hashioka
Re: Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
For me Holmes is a miss. Its true he showed effort, but it wasn't combined with anything else. He is miles off other hard working but limited players, eg Matty Pearson.--------------- Make burgers wider, not taller
Re: Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
Mostly about right, though I'd say Kaminski did what was expected of him and was a success. At one point he was getting headlines for being statistically the best shot stopper in the Premier League.
Your point stands though, too many players have come in recently and not performed.
And frankly a lot of those should have been easily predictable. Giles, for example, everyone knew that he was dodgy defensively and played the same position as one of our best players. And what happened? He struggled defensively and couldn't get in the team ahead of Doughty.
Baptiste has barely played much football for years due to an unfortunate injury record. What happened? Missed most of the season injured.
Re: Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
Holmes always gived 100% Nakamba definitely not a miss. And I think Walsh and McGuinness proved hits by the end of the season.Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.
Re: Permanent since PL promotion (not including this pre-season)
Maybe Holmes did give 100% but he’s a league 1 standard player signed when we were in the PL. since we signed him permanently Nakamba has been mostly injured. It can’t be said that he was a good use of £4M plus wages.
