Aasgaard

Suggestions that he is going for £5million.
I think we should be happy with that.
The Norway manager stuff was a pretty good indication that the agent and player didn't see him in League One this season.

As you well know, if he is sold, he will be sold for 'undisclosed'

Would be a blow to lose Aasgaard but if it means that we can keep Alli and Makosso then it’s a price worth paying (or receiving, in this case)

Dunno, him leaving would be a huge loss. I thought if we could keep him and Morris we would bounce back quite easily.
Not sure who you can replace those two with for the same quality.

Terrific player but, if his heart's not in it, best for all concerned to call it a day and move on.

Would imagine Wigan would have inserted a sell-on, so £5m would have been my minimum expectation.
Good player, wants to play at the World Cup and his national coach essentially told him to go. Not going to hold a grudge.

5 million is meaningless unless we can replace him. Who can blame him for leaving, was probably sold the dream and walked into a nightmare.

When we signed him in January we were already struggling at the bottom end of the table with survival far from guaranteed. He and his agent would have to be stupid to be sold a dream in those circumstances.

Yeah fair point, but I bet he didn't think the dressing room would be as toxic as it obviously was. Even I, being the most pessimistic person in the world thought we would still get out of trouble in Jan.

Re the dressing room, I'm genuinely curious about the board's take on the dressing room and team culture last season. It was painfully obvious to everyone that it was a complete mess. Did they turn a blind eye, hoping it would somehow magically improve under RE?
These folks have been in football long enough to recognise a good or bad situation. So, if things were as dire as they seemed, why the lavish praise when Edwards departed? No need for the whole 'you're welcome back anytime' spiel for someone who drove the team into a ditch and then watched it burn.
Feels like there is still a lot to emerge about what happened last season.

Apart from a few quotes there is no factual basis behind the 'bad apples' rumour. Not saying its not true but it could just be a deflated dressing room after a really bad spell.
I think more of a combination of the below:
Very poor recruitment. Injuries at key times. Players who had operated consistently at 100% during promotion and prem season dropping a level last season. RE being fucking stubborn with his 3-5-2 particularly in away games. If he'd been a bit pragmatic and played a 4-5-1 surely we would have picked up at least a point in those 12 games.

Morris, Harford and maybe Lockyer mentioned it in interviews (perhaps I’m mistaken on the last one).
Senior staff never criticise or speak out about this.
It means it’s true.

Yeah, I think that's a fair alternative hypothesis.
The drop-off in performance and how long it lasted was borderline unfathomable. It’s pretty much unprecedented for a stable club. Like I’ve said before, when you look at the other recent cases of back-to-back relegations: Sunderland were a shambles off the pitch, and Wolves had fans protesting against their ownership, which ended up changing at the end of that season.
Given how stable we've been off the pitch by comparison, it's understandable that some see the “bad dressing room” theory as the most logical explanation, but also might easily be a lot of 2+2=5 going on.

I doubt we'll find out the truth until someone/player writes a book or retires. Took 7-8 years to build that one for and all for one club and it took RE a lot less than that to destroy it. But not only destroy, he made us totally unrecognisable. He's not the only one to blame, I think players, Sweet and a lot of new fans got swept up in the Premier league adulation and bright lights and we forgot what makes us so fucking good. Being nasty, punching above our weight etc. We tried to become everyone's favourite second club and I fucking hated it.

Agree with all of that apart from the "being nasty" comment as I really don't think we were. Strong and committed maybe but not nasty.
Nathan Jones built up that that attitude in the squad and Edwards couldn't keep it going (for whatever reason).
I'd go as far as to say we would be in a far better place if Jones had stayed, maybe still in the prem.
