Chong to the Scum or Napoli?
Posted by Whhatter on 3/7/2025, 10:14:53
If true, let's get a good fee and let him go.' Live for today, not for tommorow '
Chong has been one of the biggest disappointments for me . He's got some skills but never ever seems to influence a game to any degree. Apart from that time he walked all over us when he was playing for Birmingham.
He must have one of the lowest win percentages of any Luton player in history. Our relatively decent spells in the winter in the Premiership season and spring last season came during periods where he was out of the team.
From memory, the Birmingham game was the first time NJ had switched to a three at the back. Our midfield that day looked totally lost, Pelly in particular had a look of constant bemusement on his face.
Chong was given so much freedom it was untrue. The little ginger lad at the base of their midfield had so much time on the ball he resembled Pirlo.
Give any half decent player ten yards of space and they will stand out. I really hope we didn't buy him on that performance alone but the evidence is pretty overwhelming.
He got 3 assists in total that season, 2 of which were against us in that game.
I hate to say this out loud, but he's been so poor for us I sometimes think we only signed him because he ripped us a new one in that one game.
It's like we never really knew where he would fit in to our system. Like quite a few from that year, a very weird signing in hindsight and very poor value for money.
Agree. In hindsight the first prem transfer window was pretty shocking. Very little value for money from those signings (with the exception of Ogbene and Barkley).
Yeah, I used to look back on the recruitment in summer 2023 and think it was alright
But it wasn't very good really, was it? Coupled with 2 poor windows in 2024, it's little wonder we have slumped miserably. Although we should still have had enough to have finished outside the bottom 3 last season
A very important window this summer. Although Jan 2025 wasn't as bad, the recruitment has been poor for 2 years now. Hopefully Bloomfield will make most of the calls and the club back him
Yep. On-pitch it's gone as bad as it possibly could have gone since Feb 2024. Naive recruitment and management (Edwards and his lot), and what feels like severe complacency setting in, has seen it all unravel very quickly
The first real storm that 2020 have faced since the non-league days. Interesting to see how it goes from here.
Off-pitch, it's still great of course. But we'll struggle to fill PC if we get stuck in Div 3 (or worse)
