    The narrative so far

Posted by Earls on 1/7/2025, 15:44:15

Last week: “We need to shift most of those failures and get a load of new players in. Useless twats.”
This week: “He’s joined Charlton? The arrogant prick! How DARE he think he’s too good for us?!”

He was good for us in the Prem as all we needed was a shot stopper.
When we went back to the championship and needed other skills he was found wanting a little.
I'm glad he's gone to Crystal Palace lite and not got a better move as it's what his performances last season have deserved.

Hopefully that cunt Mengi ends up playing for Hemel

To be fair, we needed a shot stopper in the Championship too. We were outplayed just like in the PL, only difference was that in the PL we at least had some offense…

Like most of us I'm hoping to see some decent signings as we get towards August, but seeing Mengi depart would be almost as good

In addition Hemel have signed approx 44 new players already

Much of our support has a poor view on Mengi.

Good player and one-off our biggest saleable assets j would imagine. Good pedigree with United, England U21 and he just gets dog abuse. Not sure i get it. I know he had a poor game at West Brom but bar Alli who didn't?

                  Poor most of the season

Wanted out in the summer and changed agents and delayed a surgery to do so

Move didn't happen, performances went down hill so he had the surgery

Played like he couldn't be arsed when he came back

                      Looked excellent in the Premier.

I wonder if there were multiple players wanting to leave following relegation from the prem. Maybe we should have cashed in.

Last season was proper Bermuda triangle shit.

He very much tailed off the back end of the PL season though. Gave that stupid penalty away against Everton.

You have to wonder if we were waiting on transfer valuations that were unrealistic.

Hence the stated fall out with agents and players who were so pissed off they didn’t try or certainly it effected their form and confidence.

That's worked out well then, hasn't it. Will now get a fraction of what we would have got last summer and we could possibly have brought in players that would have kept us up

That’s down to Edwards poor man management.

A better manager would have got far more out of the squad regardless.

There’s a balancing act. With Mengi, wasn’t the (seemingly believable) rumour that Torino only offered £3m?
Now, granted, Torino might have put a gypsy curse on Mengi at that point which meant he’d become worth that with his subsequent performances. But if we’d have accepted that pisstake offer, I can name a load of fans - with you at the top of the list - who’d have said we were negligent in being mugged off by a wealthy Italian club for such a tiny fee.

                                Yep, completely agree on that.

If we had managed a decent season in the Championship last season and bounced back, Mengi could have been worth £10m+

No one saw last season happening and being so fucking atrocious throughout.

I don’t see the “couldn’t give a shit attitude “tbh……I think maybe he sometimes thinks he is better than he is but imo a fit , wanting to play for us Mengi is a great asset.

Whisper it but Cuba did call it a lot earlier than most although he loses most of his credit for banging on about Taylor and Pepple 😂

I remember getting a load of abuse on here for being too pessimistic when I said pre-season we’d finish 12-14th. What a mad optimist I was, on reflection.

Genuine answer? Depends on the squad rebuild. I like Bloomfield, but I’m not 100% confident he’ll get as much resources as he needs.
I think 8-10 currently, but hoping we get the necessary churn to be comfortably in the play-offs.
