Looking back through much too much intoxicating stuff, but I'm pretty sure it was "blur or oasis". pulp were always the nerdy one off to one side doing their own thing.

They did get lumped in with "Britpop" by media and marketing people because they were young white men with guitars and similar haircuts to Blur/Oasis/Suede etc, but really they were much more like an 80s indie band. (And their stuff has aged much better than Britpop imho)
