Neil Young’s Glastonbury set to be shown on BBC

For the Neil Young fans here: his Glastonbury set is being shown live on BBC and iPlayer after all. So that’s nice.

      Ta.

Highlight tonight (actually of whole festival) for me is likely to be Beth Gibbons.

Her Manchester gig last year was amazing.

Any relatively unknown gems you might recommend?

Rachel Chinouriri today and Brooke Combe on the Avalon are the only two newish talents I’d say, along with Sprints tomorrow on the Woodsies. Hopefully they’ll be screened, can’t be sure.
I’m not a Glastonbury fan, for various reasons. Not encouraging new talent is a big one.

I last went when Pulp headlined at last minute. Went because Portishead were playing but couldn't get near it. The whole experience was crap and vowed never to go again. As a veteran of the Stonehenge Free Festivals I hate what Glastonbury has become.

Do you know/know of Greenbelt? The only festival I now (sometimes) attend.

Greenbelt has been cancelled - Labour are planning to build on it.

A great deal of things have been built on what the Greenbelt Festival has set up and achieved.

And far from being cancelled, it is the longest running festival in the UK.

It delivers on values that are often sidetracked. Genuine socialist values.

You should take a look at it. It has history locally, having been held for some years in its early 70's days at Odell.

Yes, I've had a peep at the history - It doesn't appear to be as long running as 'Glasto'

Unfortunately it co-incides with a couple of Northants Metro Bank Cup fixtures, so I'll have to give it a miss this year!

1995? That’s the only one my wife went to. I last went 2004.
Greenbelt musically isn’t quite for me and I’d guess my favourite, Neighbourhood Weekender, prob wouldn’t be for you. But similar for having a lot of good new stuff to investigate.

Greenbelt offers little musically for me, but the political, literary, philosophical and social activist side is right up my street.

Some amazing stuff has come out of that festival.

The BBC report on Neil now being shown, mentioned the rumour that Pulp may be the surprise act today.
