    What will today bring

More sales or, heaven forbid, a signing? Personally, I think the sale of Morris is a win win, although I would hope a replacement striker was already lined up and sealed before finalising the sale.

I'll bet my house that some illiterate cock-smoker will have, by lunchtime, worried that this window is as bad as the previous two/three/whatever and hoped that we see some incomings but are pessimistic.

I keep hearing this date, why is that?

Yes its the date when many contracts end but that surely was the same for Saville and many others who have already moved to new clubs.

Moreover, if we are paying money for a player that can happen today.

Most football clubs prepare accounts to 30 June - why bring forward the tax liability on sales by a year?

If fit, are you saying none of the above are not good enough for league 1?
If attitude is right, can’t accept all of them, for instance Doughty and Nakamba?
                Sorry not buying it.

"IF" they say fit. Nakamba's legs are gone and he's probably on a huge salary, relative to what he can offer.

Doughty could probably get us £7million or so, he's had his peak in his career so get rid.

Walters, Nordas would struggle in league 2 I think. The rest if the attitude was right, we'd absolutely piss the league but after last season it's the biggest IF you can imagine.

They should have all been good enough for the Championship.

Considering how abject they were last season, I've no trust in them being any good for League One.

No strong rumours pointing to that, but you never know.

There has to be some activity on that front very soon, surely.

In fairness, we rarely hear rumours about players that are true. Alot of signings come out of the blue. 2020 do right with that IMO.

I think the only signing that hasn’t been rumoured at all in recent years is Ross Barkley - which is bizarre as he was the biggest signing of the lot!

If he really did have a clause in his contract, as is being reported, then we would have had no control over it.

Posted by Ostrich spotter on 27/6/2025, 8:17:32, in reply to "Re: What will today bring"

Yes and no. The club would have known whether there was a clause or not. They should also have known from discussions with him/his agent what his intentions were. Therefore I would be dismayed had the club not lined up a replacement. Even without the benefit of knowing about clauses/discussions held, it was generally accepted Morris would be off

                              Possibly yes . . .

But if our top choice replacement is not available at the moment, eg the lad at Stoke as a possible example, do we get a second choice or wait and hope he does become available?

While I don't like waiting until later not all the most desirable players do become available at the ideal times.

The problem with that is that by putting all your eggs in one basket is that not only could you miss out on your first choice you also potentially miss out on 2nd 3rd choices etc

Yes, so each time it's a judgement call.

It's not as simple as doing it early will necessarily be the best approach.

I know people feel it's been a bit slow, and after last season I completely understand why people want a bit of a boost, but historically most of our business is done last week of June - first few weeks of July.

If we're still sat here in two weeks or so with no news, then I would be starting to get concerned.

But going to Slovenia with a squad that is going to be quite a bit different by mid-July does seems odd and 'politically' challenging.

The season starts early, hence I would say we need these new additions next week and leave behind those who are pushing for an exit.

Opens the door in the meantime for Lynch to stake a claim at Boreham Wood.

Who of the players still "with" us who are not on the plane could be quite telling. Would really hope that most of the ins and outs have been sorted before that trip

On your point re Lynch would think People is ahead of him as he has played at a higher level

                                      Fair points.

Looking through our old business, a hell of a lot of players historically join on the 1st of July.

So hopefully that klaxon is getting dusted off for Tuesday....!
