Rumours doing the rounds that he is signing for us. No idea if there is any truth but he has turned down a new contract with them as they were asking him to accept lower pay than he has been on.

Agreed, would be a great signing for Div 3, get Naismith as well and things may be heading in the right direction 👍

Same age as Brian Horton when he signed for Luton. That one worked out pretty well as I recall.

He's 32??? Not old for a player nowadays. Got at least another 3-4 years in him if he looks after himself.

Yes, but don't want a whole team of oldies especially if we do manage to get promoted as that will need another big rebuild the following year

I don't, we already have 1 or 2 although I was more responding to the clamour to sign Naismith as well as Saville

I think we would have room for Naismith too but yes we'd need to make sure we had a balance much beyond that.

Played every game for Millwall last season and at 32 it’s not too old. Seems to be popular at the Den and could be a good inspiration for some of our younger players with his energy and attitude. If Millwall fans like him then that’s a good sign.

You’re conveniently missing the part about him starting 36 games and 9 as a sub.

Weird take on a very good signing for league one.

Agree. A decent championship player with the leadership qualities we’ve been missing. A good short term option for us that will help us get out of this league.

Hugely popular at Millwall. Box to box, 'insane energy levels' according to wikipedia! His best years behind him but could do a great job in L1. Clicker, Walsh and Saville would be a handy midfield at this level.

The Millwall fans under the South London Press journalist’s tweet seem to either be sad to see him go, or saying he’ll be a top asset in League One. That seems encouraging.
I can’t remember seeing Saville playing against us, but our games v Millwall are always horrible football vacuums.

Now being reported by Richard Crawley who writes for the local South London paper. Mainly covers Charlton. I think that he was the first to report that Tom Lockyer was signing for us.

Lot of experience, if he's still fit, and he seems to still be playing plenty of games each year, then he could be a good addition. Can't say I actually remember him from any games.

Nasty, horrible bastard in centre mid. A Nakamba replacement; one that we’ve been crying out for since his injury.

Yes, he's 32 but a decent player still and, as you say, will add some much-needed steel to our, currently, lightweight midfield

He will hopefully prove to be the 2025-26 version of Alan McCormack but with less injury issues

                                      Definitely.

I'd like to see Naismith back too.

Saville and him could give us the experience and grit we need and help McGuiness develop too - which he was doing rapidly anyhow, in latter months.

Captains around the pitch. Morris is another.

Agreed. Very encouraged by this signing, hopefully a trend of the type of players/characters to come.

I’d like Naismith back too, for his leadership and the fact he’s a left footed centre back, which are difficult to find. Although, I expect we’re in competition with Charlton for Naismith, now they’ve gone up.

McGuiness will be top in league 1, in a proper structure, not a chaotic man vs man press!

Agreed. He was a January signing that I was extremely sceptical about but he was good and I'd like to see him come back. He should have started the West Brom game

Experience and steel down the middle and flair, and pace down the wings. Tempo and energy everywhere

We definitely need a striker, but I would love to see Oliver Lynch come through this season.

MB likes to develop young players, but I suppose the pressure will truly be on this season, so maybe that's unlikely.

Unless he seriously impresses in pre season, I’d say he’s likely to be loaned out to a league 2 club.

Otherwise, it would be huge pressure on the lad, when the aim has to be immediate promotion.

Inflated prices in January, in combination with us being desperate for a goalscorer, Bloomfield rating him highly and his phenomenal first half of the season.

His form tailed off rapidly post January, so I suspect he’s more attainable now, especially if he makes it clear he wants out.

It could yet happen. Wycombe’s new manager played a totally different style to Bloomfield, which didn’t suit Kone at all. He was having to play out of position, hence the form tailing off.
I believe Kone isn’t happy. A Championship club might well get him, of course, but just maybe Bloomfield could get him given the existing respect.

However, from what I’ve seen of him, albeit only a handful of times, at the moment, he’s worth nowhere near 10 million that Wycombe were demanding for him in January. I’m glad we weren’t held to ransom.

Named as the one player who possibly underwhelmed last season in a team that largely underwhelmed. The suggestion is that his legs have gone so not so much box to box now?

Personally think it would be an odd signing given he is 32 and possibly only leaving because he didn't want to take a pay cut

Same age as Nobby Horton when we signed him.

Brian Horton, now he was a leader of men, he would drag the team up by the bootlaces and drive them on, a captain, in fact a proper captain.

The implication being we will pay him more in L1 than Millwall were prepared to pay in the Championship

Or, that “Have a pay cut” is a sign he’s out of favour at Millwall and he’d rather keep playing than rotting on the bench?
