No idea, but I hope we give the young players like Johnson, Nelson, Makosso, Walters etc a chance. Unpopular view probably, but to me that is more important than promotion

Posted by Toddingtonsteve on 4/6/2025, 12:52:24, in reply to "Re: So going forward "

Because as a fan I like to see our young players come through, and having the chance to build a team around what I perceive to be a talented group of youngsters is, in my opinion, not to be missed. Bringing in loads more “experienced” players costs money and isn’t a guarantee of success

And the fact that if they're local there's a chance they might have a bit more passion and loyalty*.

Ok that might be wishful thinking but it's always nice to see local lads do well.

Surely because it is to do with the long term stability of the club conveyor belt of talent coming through?

Unless you're promoted to the PL, which is the gold mine, sometimes promotion can be very costly financially.

                Interesting list Cuba.

Charlie Kelman - If he leaves QPR I reckon he'll be after a move to another club in the Championship. .

Lewis Bate - Stockport will be one of our main rivals. Can't see them selling their captain.

Alassana Jatta - Looks like the kind of signing we might make. Plymouth offered £750,00 for him in January.

Armando Dobra - Would rather get your mate Dion back.

Jake Tabor - 'The next Jamie Vardy' I know he's a free agent after leaving Amersham but he's had unsuccessful trials with League clubs before.

Cameron Humphreys - versatile, can play midfield and left back. Played for Wycombe. I reckon this is your best guess. Maybe more likely a loan from Ipswich?

Jesse Derry (loan) - Off to Germany. Way too good for us already.

Owen Goodman (loan) - Don't think we need a keeper.

Why are you obsessed with loan players they cost a lot of money for no return. Most clubs that get promoted with loans don't sign them,so have to pay to replace the player they have developed for the parent club to sell on for big bucks

so we got no return from having the likes of Nakamba, Drameh, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for a season/half season? If used correctly a loan player or two can provide real value for money and add quality to a squad we may not otherwise be able to afford.

I think the loan of Carter Vickers back in Covid days, was a loan that paid for itself by keeping us up that year in the Championship.

Indeed. I don't get this argument that loaners are categorically a no-no.

Obviously, we don't want a squad with bugger all of our own players in it but where there are gaps and/or we can bring in some genuine quality...

Didn't we have a pretty reasonable reputation for the way we helped the development of some of the players we borrowed?

It’s an obvious one to cite, but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Leicester gave us glowing feedback, and that wasn’t long after Cameron Carter-Vickers did so well.
Didn’t Albert Sambi Lokonga partly join because of Luton’s rep for bringing players through?

Genuinely no idea, tend to leave the footballing side of things to the club. Sometimes they get it bang on, other times they make mistakes and you hope they learn from these and change their methods.

Very few players have joined the club of late that I had ever heard of before!
