"46 year football journey" is a bit misleading, he's retired at the age of 46. He didn't start as soon as he was born! Still impressive of course, but no Stanley Matthews.

Wow, hats off for staying power at that level.

I played until I was 51 at local league level (division 3/4) where the other players were 18+. That last season I noticed that the my teammates were going easy on me when tackling in training, which made me feel inwardly ashamed. Then the ref in an early season match called me 'grandad'. Time to quit!

Anyone played at decent level into their fifties?

I played until I was 40, regular Sunday mornings and occasionally Saturdays. Last game was for Oakengates Town in the Premier Division of the Shropshire County League. I'd damaged my left knee in my 20's and that, and the need for a back operation, finally caught up with me and ended a very poor career!

Smashed my left knee aged 18 during a 'lads' kickabout at college, no keyhole surgery back then and docs said they could operate but no guarantee it would be a success.
Never played since - apart from a very careful kick around with mates.
Subconsciousy developed a limp from trying not to put too much weight on that damn knee, didn't know I limped until I was told
