I just wish Lockyer would stop with the club criticism.

As many will know its not the first time I have stated this, while he was a club employee I felt the club should have had a word - which some interpreted my criticism of the club - it wasn't

Now he is effectively released it would seem he is going to carry this on and with that it undermines the club and any prospective target/agent could use this against us.

Its clearly a terrible situation for Tom but what more/else could the club have done over the last 18 months?

Yes the press no doubt spin this for dramatic effect but Locks didn't have to speak to The Sun in the first place.

We need a completely clean sweep, the days of such criticism have gone, to get back up at the first attempt we need quality and fitness in every position and support the manager and club for every decision.

Is it not fair to assume that he agreed to the interview - one of many of recent days - to promote what's happening this weekend?

            As for

Every recent article re: Tom has ended up with criticism, directly or implied. Yes I appreciate what happening today but just talk about that and not be drawn in contract conversations.

We ALL have to move on. What's done is done. No need to hark back to perceived mistakes.

There will be no line drawn under your constant slating of everything to do with the club.

Like that, or lump it. You are defined by it.

And your first line is plain untrue.

You`ve missed the entire point of him doing interviews right now haven`t you?

He and Vinnie Jones are promoting fans (and everyone) learning CPR - and focussing on the play offs for this. I`m sure you`d agree that that is a worthy cause and message (i wonder how many people here do know how to).

Now as part of the media awareness for this he will be asked questions about himself. And some journos may be a bit naughty about putting words into his mouth. Yet you focus on the clickbait headline and not the message and the reason for the interviews. Why is that?

As one of my children has a very similar health condition and based on my experience of the CRY team at St Georges in Tooting I am fully appreciative of the cause.

Hence why I am so pissed that off that such a worthy cause has been used to talk about personal contract aspects.

Bad taste and unnecessary. Its always about him, and I have stated this at various times over the last 18 months.

Obviously we don’t know what discussions have gone on, it’s a shame if he wasn’t offered some sort of deal, but maybe he was and didn’t like the terms, so the compromise of continuing his rehab here was reached.

Shame as the emphasis should be on what Tom has been through and what the delayed kick offs are about.

I used to work with someone who did a sun interview (she had been on a fly on the wall documentary). What she said and what was reported were 2 entirely different things.

I imagine it was a very loaded question "did it hurt being released after all you have done for the club" "yeah obviously its a disappointment but football is a business and i`d like to get back into it" was probably more like the way the interview went .

I`d imagine that if he passes the playing tests and gets back into it, a contract will be offered. Equally at that point a championship club may be willing to take a risk

I mean a direct quote is “felt hurt when I got news I wasn’t getting a new contract after what I’d done for the club”. So the heading and subheading doesn’t feel that unreasonable

Tabloid journalists literally put words in people's mouths though. That write up could be from something he said, or it could have been from an interview that went:

Q: "Did you feel hurt when you got news you weren't getting a new contract after what you'd done for the club?"
                          A: "Yeah"

As a rule of thumb it's a good idea never to read (or speak to) The Sun.

Well obviously it’s in a ‘tabloid style’, but clearly he’s not happy, doesn’t agree with the decision, has been ‘axed’ (in tabloid speak) and is hurt. So I don’t feel the headline completely misrepresents how he feels. Clearly the headline in the Guardian / Times based on the same interview would have been different

He says he feels 'hurt': that it but in the very next line goes on to say it's a business.

And then 5 paras later clearly indicates there may be an opening to get back in if he gets the all clear.

The headlines just put words into his mouth which he hasn't said and which I don't think in the slightest reflect the actual tone of what he's said.

Personally believe it a big mistake to not offer at least a pay as you play contract.

More personality, leadership, character and will to win in his bit toe then the rest of the squad put together

He unites the club, something much needed as it became divided last season. Something toxic happened in the culture. That dressing room had issues and he would have fixed it no doubt

I’d say nearly dieing for the cause deserves at least that commitment in return

How many players accept PAYP contracts these days? Very few.

We need to be ruthless. We have been swayed by loyalty with players and it has bloated our squad, but I would let him continue his rehab with us and see how he is and maybe give him a year contract as I think he is a quality leader and bloke. I can still remember the pissing rain at Blackpool and lockyear throwing his body all over the place to win us that game.

Not quite sure what he really expects?

He would've got a whopping pay rise after promotion, despite collapsing in the play-off final hence why he was only given a 2 year deal. And then he hasn't played for 18 months.

As far as I can tell, the door is still open for him if he proves his fitness. If he can get himself ready for pre-season, throw him into a couple of games and hopefully we'll offer him a deal.

This summer was all about being ruthless. This was the right decision by the club.

Agreed. Apparently needs two reserve style games to get medical clearance to play fully. Unwise for the club to make a contractual commitment until that clearance has been forthcoming.
