Must have given one hell of an interview based on his past work at Norwich and Hibernian which can be seen by simple google search. 😳 Coincidence that SB left this week?
His reputation is rank bad if you look online at coverage surrounding him. What due dilligence was conducted when appointing this bloke?! Very concerning.
Not sure why we’re associating with him. Left last two clubs under a cloud, including two initiatives that needed u-turns at Norwich and then seen with the ops person at previous club who was sacked for allegations of inappropriate texts and groping.
Hope I’m proved wrong, but it just looks like a smarmy ‘yes’ man that won’t help the culture reset that’s needed.
Now you’re creating conspiracy. Who said or implied anything about running off with money?!
It hardly looks an inspiring addition. He’s out of work and has left last two posts under a cloud, including being seen an associated with an ex-colleague fired for dodgy behaviour.
I see good when it happens.
Unlike you, I’m not ok with failure, ego or eating of money.
I've just read the article I think you're referring to. Issues with communication around a membership scheme and an unsuitable sponsor. Hopefully he's learnt from that and I'm sure sponsors would've been discussed at interview.
The article does concede he got plenty right and that there's no denying he left Norwich in a much better position commercially
Norwich seemed quite sad he was going, at board level at least.
From Norwich's official statement
The club’s joint majority shareholders, Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones, said: “We are very sad that Ben has decided to move on. He has made an outstanding contribution to restructuring the club.
“He has also transformed our commercial activities and is highly regarded by all who have worked with him - staff, supporters and sponsors.
“We and the board owe him our heartfelt gratitude and wish him every success in his next venture.”
Either way, the amount of questions being raised by his appointment is totally the opposite to what needs to happen. Sweet and Co. really need to work on getting the supporters back on side. The bluntness of the Browne statement hasn't helped either. Sweet allegedly admits that communication with the supporters needs to improve, then they send that short, vague post out, once again treating supporters like mushrooms.
"The bluntness of the Browne statement hasn't helped either."
I just assumed that it wasn't a long eulogy because he hasn't left completely (still a shareholder, just not as involved) and hasn't died. But obviously some people want to read more into it."Never too high, never too low"
I think that's fair. Over the last few days there has been a move towards professionalising the board so it is now 50% exec positions and 50% the three largest shareholders.
SB owns just over 2% of the club, a bit more than Kailesh Kravadra who also doesn't sit on the board. Appreciate that he has been around from the start, but this isn't the first time he has stepped down from the board and he remains a shareholder.
Generally people have been calling for a greater professionalism at the top levels in the club and less falling on GS's shoulders. This seems like a step in that direction. Whether it works or not and whether this new CRO is a success, time will tell.
SB spends a lot of time in Australia so difficult in many ways to keep in touch with all the issues required of a Director. Mr J.C. Lomax having been called upon to give his opinion upon the proposed formation of a Town Club, said he was most emphatically in favour of a proposed Luton Town Football Club - 11th April 1885
Fuck me! He's getting a gaff built, Gary's got his new heated swimming pool and Bentley and us peasants are supposed to be grateful with a tenner off the price of a season ticket.
Are you! Fair play, but there seems to be an anti 2020 theme to your posts. Mr J.C. Lomax having been called upon to give his opinion upon the proposed formation of a Town Club, said he was most emphatically in favour of a proposed Luton Town Football Club - 11th April 1885
