I started supporting Luton in the 1958/9 season. My first match was Leeds United at home, a draw 1-1. I used to go with my dad. We sat on benches in the main stand, season ticket holders had their surnames painted on the bench. My dad went to the cup final but could not get a ticket for me.

I went to the 3rd round game with Leeds (5-1), the 4th round replay with Leicester (4-1) and the 6th round replay with Blackpool (1-0). I didn't get to the final. In those days the finalists got around 13,000 tickets each and a lot of those went as a perk to players, it being in the maximum wage era. Much rest went to county FAs for distribution to grass roots clubs. I got tickets for the 1975 final (West Ham v Fulham) and the 1977 final ( Manchester United v Liverpool) where I stood next to a United fan who was dressed as a gorilla for some reason.
