In the York match report it mentions a Cup Final ticket rumpus the day before. Can you shed any light on that?

Appreciate probs before your time. I was there and already fully addicted/obsessive but that doesn't ring any bells.

I also for the life of me don't remember Brian Johnson, though have clear memories of aspects of the game and mood.

As J Block OAP posted, there was air of real optimism for the next season after the game. Which proved to be fully justified!!

I had a look on the Newspaper Archives. The final was on the 20th May between Chelsea and Spurs. There is was seems to us today the usual talk about demand and black market tickets and all sorts of stories, scams and complants - possessing 18 home programmes was not a guarantee of a ticket for Chelsea fans. The allocation system being questioned - it should be fans only not spread around the country to all sorts of groups.

So nothing unusual these days but being in a football golden age after the World Cup and an all London final it seems to have been termed a "rumpus" at the time

Ah, I was wondering if it might have been something to do with the allocation LTFC got from the FA, as I think all clubs did (do?) get some tickets.

Just stood out in the report, I thought.

I used to get a couple of tickets every year just for running a Sunday morning team.....

I used to get a couple of FA cup final tickets every year from my grandad. He was given them as he reffed a handful of 3rd Division South games.

York game in 1967 was where the revival started. Me and my friends came out of the ground feeling really optimistic for the following season. We weren't wrong.

That 1966-67 season was a strange one. While we beat York at home 5-1, a few weeks before we lost 5-1 at their place. And, of course, there was that infamous 8-1 hammering at Lincoln that season too.

The match that sticks in my head was the home game against Notts Co. in October. County stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first half before Pleat pulled one back before half-time. I remember being on the Kenilworth Road terrace with my Dad, thinking that we might pull back 4 goals in the second half to win (I was an optimistic 12-year-old at the time). Didn't happen, though the second half wasn't quite as bad. Finished 2-5.

As others have pointed out, the tail end of the 66/67 season was where the revival started...and the rest is history.

That Rioch goal sealed a great day. For some reason I was at the KR end, not Oak Road, so probs somewhere in that shot of kids and yoofs!

I could have sworn that you were on the Oak Road that day. Just shown how the memory plays tricks on you sometimes.

🤣🤣🤣 it's quite possible I was, at least first half anyhow - think my memory is more mashed than yours!!!

If we were kicking that way in the second half, lads in the Oak Road used to walk along the running track to the KR end at HT.
