Gardening Hatters

I want to grow a Clematis. Is this the right time to plant a little baby one? It's very dry and no forecast for rain so will it be okay if I just water it each morning? The place I have in mind is right next to a small apple tree and gets partial shade from a much bigger tree on the other side. I want it to fill the gap in between and have it climb up the waist high bit of fence there. All advice gratefully received.
Thanks in advance all you green fingered types.outlaws is not the barometer of sanity.

Lots of good advice in this thread. They're greedy plants so the more you can manure/mulch the soil in advance the better. If you can, with the small ones now widely on sale and much cheaper than standard ones, it is better to pot them on several times and let them get a really good root system rather than planting them straight into position and expecting them to thrive. But we're all impatient and you might be ok with plenty of watering and careful tying in to your fence or whatever.

Personally if it’s small I would tend to leave it in a container/pot and maybe plant out next year, although clematis can be planted out anytime of the year really. This way you can move it around the garden until established enough to plant out. Remember to cover the roots with a mulch as they like their feet in the shade and head in the sun, plus keep the soil moist but don’t overwater.

Roots ideally need to be in shade. It's a bit late to plant but should be OK if you water every day for a few weeks then twice a week for the rest of the summer

Soak the area now and soak it again tomorrow. Following day, put it in the ground and soak it again. Water it every day until the natural weather starts. You have a good position for the roots with the shade you describe. Sing it some of your favourite songs.

I WILL DEFINITELY SING TO THE CLEMATIS outlaws is not the barometer of sanity.
I'll also add that be careful with clematises. They can get out of control if you're not careful. But they can work really well as a climbing plant to cover Fencing.Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.

Is there a risk it will entangle the apple tree and harm it? I like the apple tree. outlaws is not the barometer of sanity.
