    Ipswich

Remember when every Tom, Dick and Harry said we’d stink the place out last season?

A budget probably around £175M all in. And going down with a whimper.

I was just reading this report of Leicester's non-event of a relegation
      https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/apr/20/leicester-city-relegation-premier-league-liverpool

I'm so glad we kept going until the final day last season, every single game felt like it meant something.

That's a cracking bit of prose to open the article!

You're right, we kept going, despite what some say.

When you look at the way promotion/Premier League is going, we gave it a great shot.

And yes, this season has been a shock and shite, but on Friday it felt like we'd rediscovered our identity.

We're Luton Town and this is far from over yet.

(Prediction: lose tomorrow, stay up at West Brom!)

I wonder if a club will ever be brave enough to stick largely to the players who got them promoted ? By all means add a few, but once you lose the fight, and the special sense of unity that helped to get you promoted, just like Luton, and Ipswich both had, it can soon go pear shaped, as we have learnt to our cost ! Ipswich going down like this after what they have spent, is pretty scary, I think the difference in the two divisions is now almost unbridgeable, as three more teams will find out next season !

Knew they were in trouble after signing Ogbene who already proved totally unreliable at that level. Pretty worrying for English football however if 175m cant buy you a fighting chance in PL

It's looking likely that the bottom three this year will each end up with fewer points than the team in the equivalent position last season.

If you took out the bottom 3 (last yrs promoted lambs to slaughter) then you'd have a really exciting relegation battle in the PL.

The morons have really broken it haven't they?

I can see a PL2 on the way with only 1 relegation place from PL1 .

I think being able to stay in the PL for a period of time the money in recent years has made small clubs into big clubs. Those clubs you mention have done brilliantly and hit the jackpot just when it mattered. Now it looks like whatever comes up must go down and the FFP rules will make sure the drawbridge is 'up'.

It's all about the money and they have had, and continue to have, a lot more of it.

No way are Brentford bigger than us, they've spent most of their history in the bottom 2 leagues.
A nothing London club until lately.
Bournemouth too are nowhere near as big as us, they just happen to have a Billionaire owner.

It's all about where clubs are now not where they've spent their past.

With a new stadium & Prem League football we would easily get bigger crowds than Brentford.

Don’t agree re Brentford. Until recently, I would argue they’ve historically been a smaller club than us. They haven’t sold out a single home match this season, despite their capacity only being 17,250, in a new stadium in the prem. I’d expect us to be close to full capacity most weeks in the prem.

Their average attendances pre 2014 (before their promotion to championship), were lower than ours in the conference.

They’ve also never won a major trophy and have spent the majority of their history being a lower league club.

It’s only since Benham pumped a shed load of money into them, that they have surpassed us.

Bournemouth’s owner is said to have assets worth about €1.5 billion. That’s the difference between them and us.
