    Matts pre-match

I know there isn't many positives to talk about at present but all the mumbo jumbo about distance covered , high speed running ..... whatever happened to being a good footballer, I know the game has changed over the years but players like Hoddle, Brady and further back Hudson, Curry and Bowles wouldn't have topped any charts for hard work, but that's the essence of a team game, you need players that compliment each other. A lot has been said around our problems, "don't score enough goals", "don't defend well enough", which are all true, but I think the biggest problem is lack of midfield creativity... oh for somebody with the influence of Barkley or at a step down a Shinnie, if we had somebody that could look after the ball and create chances the pressure would be lifted off our defence and would create more chances for the strikers.

It's very much a running game now. Players like Bowler are trying to play that old fashioned slow flair game and just look totally redundant

Agreed. Above all else in the summer, whatever division we are in, priority number one needs to be a dominant central midfield player

I remember Brady being like he was somehow, playing a different sport to everyone else on the pitch. Scotland v Republic of Ireland sometime in the eighties. All the players running, chasing and clashing. The ball arrived with Brady and he would put his foot on the ball. It was like time stopped, then he picked his pass and away they all went again.

What would you do if, you found her dead on the ground?

Watched an interview with Russell Martin last night.

When asked about Southampton's summer transfer business he said the thing he would change was he'd get in players with more athleticism. He was surprised at how strong and powerful the opposition were.

Yes, Barkley was incredibly creative but he was also a beast. That combo is why we basically had an England international level player in our midfield.

Last season our centre backs couldn't deal with what Edwards was asking of them. This season we royally fucked up by bringing in players like Walsh and Baptiste who might be good on the ball but aren't physically up to it.

Stats might be a bit boring but these days team work and having a few creative players isn't going to cut it in the top two tiers. You need fitness and workrate, something our champ promotion team had in abundance - and the even they found the Prem a step too far.

Losing Barkley & Lokonga and replacing them with Baptiste & Walsh was never going to end well.

We got promoted from this division with a midfield 3 of Nakamba, Clark and Pelly.

I think the recruitment team probably thought one of those two gambles you mention would have paid off (and tbf Walsh has been one of our best players the last 4 or 5 games).

We were never going to find anyone in the same stratosphere as Barkley or Lokonga to play in the Champ for us.

Not saying that we weren't a bit passive with our midfield recruitment, but our squad shouldn't be anywhere near the relegation zone.

I think you have to point the finger solely at Edwards for our current predicament. He let the culture our playing success had been built on for the past 10 years slip, then heads dropped and complacency set in.

If Walsh has been our best player then we really are fucked.
Don't see why we couldn't find another good Premier league fringe player on loan, must be plenty about.
Agree, Barkley was a one off, but you'd think there would be few Lokonga's about.

The refusal to use premier league loans has been one of many headscratchers this season. Then when we finally do get one in its Josh fcuking Bowler

Shinnie was excellent in League One but lacked pace and physicality in the Championship.

I worry that Aasgard may have the same problems.

There are plenty of creative players in the lower leagues and non-league but you need more than that to survive the Championship.

I'm absolutely not writing him off after a handfull of games in a poorly performing team.

More pointing out the different level between League One and Championship.

I think Aasgaard will be a top player he is Athletic, and has great control and passing range.
At the moment we are not playing to his strengths been hitting long balls up to Morris and Eli cutting him out.
It was noticeable that when Allí and Brown came on he was on the ball more.
We need to get him on the ball as much as possible.

Yes, agreed, I think he's shown some good touches but he does feel like a player that possibly needs others around him to build that solid platform around him.

                      Time will tell.

Won't do him any harm at all to train and play with Haaland and Odegard.

He'll have a bit of a shock when he knocks a through ball through to Haalaand who shows pace and power to get onto it and finish.

Then he comes back to Luton and knocks one through to Adebayo...
