Considering going to watch a local non league game instead of watching Luton. First time in my life that I have ever even considered it. Is it just me or is anyone else tired of watching inept players who are paid too much? I want to see people playing who are paid what they are actually worth. Time to walk away from the professional level BS? It doesn't sit right with me I must admit but I am genuinely tired of going along with things as they currently are.

Obviously money and the corporate agenda has ruined football. Football in the 80's pre PL period was much more interesting. I have always believed that the media hysteria over "football hooligans" was part of the agenda to turn football into a commodity for middle class people. However given that we are where we are I do not buy this "the players are not trying" narrative. I think they are trying but are low on confidence and a number are not that good to begin with.

I'm not saying they're not trying. I'm saying they're overpaid for what they are capable of. And it's been allowed to become endemic throughout the whole game.

If players were capped at the national average wage it would be far more relatable again.

If clubs were allowed 2 or maybe 3 star players who were allowed to be paid twice the national average, but not more than 2 or 3 players in their whole squad, that would prevent clubs from buying titles and cups. The top players would be spread out amongst all clubs. It would disincentivise rich twat owners from getting involved and ruining everything. The more I think about it the more it makes sense. There wouldn't be any need for agents either.

Sadly that won't happen. There are massive financial forces at play that are inflating wages at the top of the game and that flows down. If you tried to enforce such a rule even at a European level then the big clubs would just tell UEFA to get lost and set up their own league and that would then force smaller clubs to join them over time - bit like Darts where the top players just went off and did their own thing - the rest played in a sort of second rate competition which then died off because who wants to watch second best?

Football is nothing like darts though. The quicker the self-proclaimed big boys fuck off and do their own thing the better. There is plenty of support for clubs outside a top 6-10 that might want to go elsewhere. Having lost touch with their local communities and become a world tourist attraction the locals will hopefully want to disown them anyway. Football, at it's best is tribal. Darts isn't. Well certainly not in any comparable way. Football in England will do very well thank you very much without the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc wanting to keep their already fat noses in the trough without letting the likes Halifax, Yeovil, Southend etc even getting a sniff. I fucking hate everything the premier league stands for. Bunch of selfish greedy cunts the whole lot of them.

It's real talk though. Too real for some I predict. Let's make football great again. Kill all football agents for a start. Then bring in a wage cap. Possibly allow 2 or 3 "star" players per club who are allowed to be paid more than the rest of the squad but both categories of players should be capped. The lower category at something like the average national wage, and the higher category something like double that. If it was more along those lines I would be able to accept continuously inept performances. At the moment I feel like I am having the piss taken out of me by so called professionals.

So who should get all the money from tv deals and advertising if it isn't the players? The owners? I rather think your Glazers and Bohleys and Abramoviches are rich enough

It's too much money which has ripped the soul out of football over the last 30 odd years. Our current squad is full of players that aren't even bang average at the level they are playing. That hurts to say but it's the harsh truth. Yet they will all be on very inflated wages.

I'd prefer all the TV money and advertising money to fuck off. If that's not possible plough it back into the local communities around the country. Develop sports facilities. Encourage kids to play sports and become physically healthy. Plough it into grass roots. Anything instead of continually handing it over to shit over rated players that have bagged deals they don't deserve because that's the way it's been allowed to become.

You're talking about socialism and I'm 100% with you comrade, but I don't think it's going to happen in football before it happens in the rest of the economy. We'll get there though, in decades.

That is an epic flounce. Look, we're all sick of this losing streak. Almost two seasons is one hell of a streak. We've also had almost a whole season of garbage football too. It'll change it always does. I'll be there Saturday with my prawn sandwich after spending another £450 including travel and hotel to watch our inept team in the hope they'll surprise me. They say it's the hope that kills you. It isn't . It's giving up that does that.

We went up to the top level of football in this country and it has had a massive detrimental effect on us as a club spiritually. I enjoyed the prestige of finally supporting a Premier League club. I didn't enjoy the love in, I prefer it when it's us against the world. I didn't enjoy the difficulty in getting tickets. I didn't enjoy the sanitised atmosphere in the so called big clubs grounds, the single exception being Anfield which lived up to it's reputation for me, it was my first visit. But I don't think we can compete at that level without selling our soul. And I don't want us to sell our soul. We need to get back what brought us that success over those 10 years climbing the divisions. But why if the prize is going back to that hollowed out environment? What is the point?

I mean it when I say bring back the wage cap. That is where positive change has to start. That is how we make football healthy again. Because at the moment it has become The Emperor's New Clothes and we have all been gaslit into believing that the current state of affairs is normal. It isn't. It's shit.

Brentford look like they're having fun without selling their soul though. I don't think that's completely unattainable for us.

Just reading Boro got massive injuries atm and their back four is pretty makeshift and Giles playing LB. . I know we’re shite but 4 points this week would be massive.
Draw could be good tomorrow imo.

Football has become so far up its own arse these days though. It's ridiculous what players get paid. They should bring back a wage cap and get it back to something more closely resembling normality. Our love for our clubs up and down the country has well and truly had the piss taken out of it for years and it's getting worse. I might walk away. I might not. I'm definitely starting to consider it. And it makes me feel a bit sad to be honest.

I'd agree money has skewed the game and made many clubs a rich man's plaything. However watching Bournemouth and spurs on Sunday the game despite all the epic pointless rule changes is still there to enjoy. Watching the passing and movement of the players was quality. I think the game reflects what people want these days. A nice day out and plenty of selfies. The decision making of our players this year has been and remains dire. It's a long road back.
