Greaqtest guitarist of all time

Got to be Peter Green touch incredible Clapton, Hendri.Beck, gods but something about Green's playing,
Not the best guitarist but probably the most influential Bert Weedon. His book Play in a Day was read by most famous British guitarists of the 60's. Mick Taylor, Robert Johnson and John Martyn my to op three.
Zal was up there and had a very distinctive style, but RG was on another level as you say could play pretty much anything from blues to jazz. This is no season for loving This is the season of pain
Impossible to say. There must be lots of great players who didn't make the "big time", for a variety of reasons. Of the ones that did, it then depends on the music you like. There is a famous picture (probably taken by Henry Diltz) in one of the Laurel Canyon parties. Joni Mitchell is playing one of her new songs and while everyone is enjoying it, Clapton is staring, focused on what she is playing with a baffled look on his face. Of course Joni was playing with one of her own tunings. But he had no idea. Does that maker better? Of course not. Just different. And I always thought that I would see you again.
I often wonder what the likes of Buddy Holly would have been like if born a decade or two later and obviously had survived longer. He was stretching the envelope back then, what would he have done had he been able to draw on all those other influences . . .
Terry Kath is a great example of what I was saying further up. 👆 Most people who know/like Chicago, do so because of the lah-de-dah (chart material) stuff, led by Peter Cetera . Kath was great, but invisible. And I always thought that I would see you again.
Paul Kossof genius when sober and clean (Page couldnt replicate double chords in All Right Now)
Neil Young better than recognised Lindsay Buckingham never mentioned but pretty good Jerry Garcia so clever with it Mick Ronson big part in Bowie's fame
Underrated Axe man for me is Billy Duffy. Started with Post punk band, Theatre of Hate and then and still with The Cult. The ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ opening rift is just superb.
As a guitarist this is something that I think about a lot. Agree with a lot of names but Jeff Beck, Richie Blacmkore and Randy Rhoads are in with a shout.
As for the more recent generation, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani and Marty Friedman are up there.
I love Jason Becker who's career was cut short due to ALS. The music he was writing and performing at age 15 was mind blowing. He still writes music using his eyes now.
John Norum made me pick up the guitar though. Phenomenal guitarist.
Saw Ritchie Blackmore and Randy Rhonda live. Blackmore wasn’t in the mood for it, finishing the concert early and sparking off a riot. Very hard to say who is best. Depends on your own taste in music. Personally Ive always rated Tony Iommi who I’ve also seen live just because of the heavy riffs he produced and how it transformed rock. Wouldn’t argue with many of the choices above but would also add Dave Gilmour and Carlos Santana.
