Though we did it in one game that season...things could be worse (maybe).

I remember it well. Lincoln bottom and us one place above. I vividly remember the scores coming through on the BBC's Teleprinter. In those days ,if it was a big score they would type it out in letters, so" Lincoln City 8 ,-EIGHT,- Luton Town 1. How did we get on, asked my father. "We lost 8 - 1 , I replied. "Don't be so bloody silly, was his reply ! Happy Days ! In a strange way,we began our revival after that debacle. New manager Allan Brown brought in ex-England forward Derek Kevan and Leicester's reserve centre-half Max Dougan. This pair helped steady the ship and we finished the season above the re-election places. ( Strangely, we had a very similar away record then as compared with this : Won 1, Drew 4 and lost the rest ) Next season, we went up as Division Four Champions.
Fortunately, I didn't go to that game. I was at Southport when we lost 4-1 a few games before in October (Rioch scored our only goals in both matches), but I couldn't persuade anyone to take me to Lincoln. Probably a good thing.
3-2: Whittaker (surprisingly not a pen.) and Rioch 2.
Were you around for the miserable 1964-65 season as well? Lost to QPR away 7-1, Gillingham and Southend away 5-0, Exeter away 5-1 and Shrewsbury at home 7-2 (I remember that one). Now that was a truly miserable season, but my Dad kept taking me so I kept going! I can only imagine the Outlaws meltdown if it had been around way back then.
Mind you, this season has felt almost as bad as those dire days in the mid-60s. But the key is to stick with it, through the bad times and the good.
