What has REALLY gone wrong this season ?

Can people come up with any realistic answers ? Last season we did not disgrace ourselves in the Premier League. We still have a few of those players in the squad today. OK, we lost Ross B. but surely that's not the reason for our present situation, is it ? Good players do not turn bad in a few months. So is it an attitude problem, fitness, or bad management ? Folks are starting to blame GS-is he the problem ? After all , he does not pick the team ( Or does he ! )Only thing that I do know, is that with ten games to go, we are are realistically staring relegation in the face. And sadly, there will be no John Still or Nathan Jones ( and sadly, Big Mick seems to have faded into retirement ) to pull us out of the mire this time.
The spirit and heart the players had at the start of the season and through until february faded as we failed time and time again to hold onto leads in matches and injuries appeared constantly.
The injuries meant close season preparation was minimal and we've been fighting fires ever since.
the toll last season took on our players physically and mentally is something I think we all underestimated.
Board took a risk in rewarding failure by keeping Rob on and endorsing the shiny new plan of keep ball. And at that moment the whole identity of the club and what got us into the Prem disappeared. They should have said no thanks and found a manager to keep the identity in tact. The board are the key custodians and they dropped the ball in the summer.
For me the problem goes back to losing Locks. We lost our leader and our best defender in one hit, and he was never replaced. We then lost our midfield when Barkley and Lokonga departed, and they were not replaced, adequately. Then we persevered with a manger who had lost his way for far too long, he should have gone in November or early December at the latest, so when the new manager did come in he did not have enough time to assess the squad and then have a full transfer window to sort some of the issues out. You have to point an accusing finger at those in charge of the club and also recruitment I’m afraid. GS, the board,MH and team, have all been miracle workers over the years but, have all been caught with their pants down this time around. I hope they learn from this, we cannot keep trying to “do it on the cheap” or “buy for the future” you have to live in the now.
I agree. We all knew at least by the beginning of the January window that we did not have a left back. I don’t care when Bloomfield arrived, we knew - and the club must have known - that we did not have a squad to play Bloomfield’s preferred - 433 - formation.
It did not need “time to assess”. We all knew it, Gary Sweet knew it, Mick Harford knew it.
Agreed, but we still finished higher than the ogther promoted teams. We blew it this year by the poor summer signings and again injuries and not replacing Lockyer properly.
No manager could win with this team as we just have crocked players and crap defenders.
Edwards, last 14 games in prem, 1 win.but losing games too easily. But also not sacking him after boro game. Think PC and academy upgrade, injury analysis and other factors has taken away from the squad.
