Robbie Edwards - confidence
Posted by Zaphod on 11/11/2024, 11:24:51
We often discuss the confidence of the players, but has Robbie lost confidence? To continually say 'its on me' would suggest so, and his lack of confidence will transmit itself to the players.
He is still inexperienced. A successful year at FGR, and was given no time down the road. Promotion with us in 22-23. Last season was a 'fee hit' in many eyes. For the first time in his career this season he is having to handle high expectations, and underperformance, and he has no experience of this situation to fall back on.
I think that's a massive part of it. I don't think he's at all sure how to fix these issues, and it's affecting him for sure.
In some ways it's to be applauded that he's not just Allardyce-ing it with bluster, but at the same time, part of his job is to always look like he knows what to do. At the moment, he doesn't, and it's a massive problem.
Part of me thinks, if we can get through this season without going down, we can almost reset in the summer - hopefully with Edwards still as I think he is a good manager. But my confidence in him is waning massively.
Short term answer worth a try ... bring in an experienced (Paul Hart type) character that is not necessarily chosen by Rob... I think his tactical thinking needs challenging and it doesn't appear that Kyle and Trollope do this (I may be doing them a disservice) as Rob is to wedded to the 3 centre halves and not much midfield approach which clearly at present with the present players isn't working.
Yes .... but clearly not working, Trollope was a Rob appointment and my assumption is therefore thinks the same way ... what I am suggesting is someone with a fresh set of eyes and views on how to play
