    Reasons for keeping Edwards

Posted by Midfield Genius on 10/11/2024, 9:25:52

Reading posts on social media etc , I am yet to see anyone give a valid reason for keeping him other than the promotion, which most sensible people acknowledge was with a squad built by the previous manager.

It’s blatantly obvious he wants to play a more possession based game than we currently have been , his stubbornness to keep playing wing backs etc and no plan b to turn games around is highlighted all to often.

Looking back it appears there was issues behind the scenes in the summer, he didn’t get the players he wanted and ended up with the usual crocked journeyman, I lost count of times he said “ there’s a couple coming in next week “.

Rob Edwards is a top bloke and have us a fantastic day at Wembley but seems to have been found out.

    I wish him well

When Jones left we were 9th after 20 games. 29 points and a goal difference of +1. two points behind the playoff places. 1.45 points per game.

Edwards took us to 3rd on 80 points with a goal difference of +18 and 11 points clear of what was needed to get into the playoffs. 1.74 points per game.

It may have been with a squad constructed by the recruitment team before he got there but he made a significant difference when he came in. Some would say there's nothing easy about taking over someone else's squad.

        Reasonable post.

Out of interest, what do you think RE’s natural level is? I would say a solid L1 manager.

Yes I think that’s fair, probably a good coach of youngsters with his FA background

Probably right but in our current predicament Jones would cope much better (not that I'm advocating his return)
