That's been our biggest downfall.
Not replacing injured players, not having enough players lined up if the first choice targets don't come. Seems very poor management planning with no foresight.
Have 2020 been distracted too much with the new ground? Have we become complacent due to a season in the premier? Is there an issue with players joining us?

Gary Sweet. He does the negotiating. Tried to play his hand thinking he had the power but never and we find ourselves here. The cost of players is well up this season hence the 6mil we paid but we still think we can low ball other clubs?. If a club thinks a player is worth x mil you got to pay it. Look at Sheff united paid the fee Peterborough wanted for burrows and he is flying.

my view is that they have persuaded themselves that there is a "Luton Model" which involves buying bargain basement players and getting the collective to overperform. They have been vindicated with the likes of the Barkley signing which was a rabbit out the hat but generally things revert to a mean over time and ultimately a lot of our signings are now being shown to be poor. We have loads of misses the last year or so - Chong/Giles/McGuiness/Moses/Walsh/Baptiste/Hashi really have added very little to the promotion squad and perhaps even reduced it. Even Ogbene did very little for us although to be fair was sold on a tidy profit.
