    Investment and judgement

No team investment in the summer and then £10 mil on a centre back that has made our defence worst than ever

It wasn't £10m as we've discussed many times but, the Summer window was bad. RE recruited for his Guardiola style which restricts flexibility, incoming prices went up, loan prices and conditions weren't favourable and we didn't know who was going - Menghi didn't go to Slovenia because he thought he was off, then didn't play QPR home for the same reason and hasn't looked interested at all this season.

Or alternatively, loan prices and conditions were market value and we misjudged that market.

Two I heard about - £1m fee for a season loan and another player was that he plays 75% of games. Misjudgment?

Say we signed McGuiness for an upfront fee of 5m on a 4 year contract, that works out as 1.25m per season. 1m for a player per season sounds probably about right for the Championship. I appreciate we don't get resale value, but not sure we will on McGuiness either right now.

As Sandgrounder alludes to below, if the market doesn't change, what's the alternative? Get left behind?

Don’t agree with a commitment to play a certain number of games, but if that’s the market value for loan fees then it is what it is. Rak-Sakyi for £1M for the season is better value that McGuinness for 6x that. There have been a lot of successful loans in the championship this season, if that’s not part of our transfer model we will get left behind.

I see both sides to it. Many have been tempted to go down that road & failed big time. Great if it works out like Forest.

The board did get players in though. And most people seem to think player for player they are a lot better than the team that won promotion ,so the current performance is not good enough

              We had no investment.
Barkley 5m, Giles 4m, Ogbene 8m + offloaded players like Berry and we lost Kabore and Lokonga

We brought in Mguiness 10m. Baptiste free, Walters free, Walsh free, moses free.

How is that investing in our squad ?

The board didn't get the players in. They play no part in the process.

First time I've heard that. No one I've spoken to thinks that.
