Building confidence

No doubting that the 3 points were more important than the performance. It gives the team and Rob a little breathing space ahead of a tough set of fixtures. A solid defence is the key to any good team and it now looks like we may be on the way to having that with options and competition for places. Been a very long time since we could say that. Yesterday Cardiff never looked like scoring. Now we need to build on that and get our attacking play up to speed. We are too reliant on goals from set piece plays, which makes us too one dimensional. Middlesbrough away is a tough one especially with it being an early kick off. Hopefully Rob will have learnt from the Coventry game. Anyway crazy league. If we could now put a run together we'll shoot up the League.

It's a poor league. Aside from Burnley, who have now lost 2 or 3 players from when they played us, I haven't been impressed by anyone I've seen this season. And, yes, I know we ain't been great either
Maybe I'm holding teams to higher standards after what we watched last season but Millwall, Watford and WBA in or very near the play-off zone? Sunderland top? Fucking hell
Every single year, even last, it's stated on here that we are in a "poor league". Just suggesting how lucky we are that this is always the case. Always.
Well if you can find evidence where I, personally, have said that then fine. Because I didn't say it last season nor any season since our last season (hopefully last season ever) in L2
Granted I have seen others say that stuff even last season, which was clearly mad
I just think, generally speaking, we are developing a bit of a habit of not giving the team credit where it's due while we are happy to criticise them.
However, I think a lot of the criticism comes from giving the squad credit. Or, should I say, showing faith. This season I am convinced we have a top 8 squad even though, for whatever reason(s), we ain't shown that enough... at least, not yet.
So, there is credit/faith/whatever we call it but that's also a reason why many of us feel a bit deflated about the poor start
If anything maybe I'm guilty of giving the team too much credit or thinking they're better than they are. I don't think that's the case but I know others will have a different view, which is fine
Fair enough, I do remember saying at the start of the season that pretty much anything could happen. And I tend to agree with you, I definitely feel we've got a "top half" squad there potentially.
But I think a lot has gone wrong for us with injuries and players trying to come back from them. How many times have we started with the same back line in consecutive games for example?
I think last night suggests we can be good defensively. If we can keep most of the players fit I feel confident we will rise up the table. Not sure quite how far but at the moment I do feel confident.
That said, we do have some very tough games coming up. But everyone said they wanted to see signs of improvement and Coventry aside we have shown that in the last few games.
I think sone mentioned last season being pike because the 3 promoted teams stayed up abd3 established teams went down. Which proved rubbish because the 3 promoted teams all went down.🤪
The Scoddy Parker effect really starting to kick in at Burnley now ...... we were unlucky to play them before he could really start to have an impact on them.
It's strange league though; we've done better against - by the current league table at least which, according to some yesterday, was THE ORACLE - better teams.
Agree with all of that , but especially the one dimensional attacking threat. Sorry to this , but the way Rob has set the team up to play , I don’t think we will see any different this season.
It’s why Taylor has not been given a chance, it’s not his game. Our goals will have to come from the set piece route, Chong and Clarke are trying hard to provide a different solution driving through midfield, and I admire them as at least they give us something, but are just too lightweight to offer that threat consistently. Defence as you say is now becoming stronger. A Boring mid table finish, is the realistic aim, which many on here said they would be happy with?
True that we are pretty one dimensional but, Morris had a goal ruled offside when he was on a one on one, at least twice Eli got beyond the back 4 with balls played through or turning the defender and just couldn't sort his size 13s out. We are sort of getting there but this comes from the solid foundations of a back line.
