I’m actually enjoying this….. the disaster that is this government, is defining.
Not since the seventies, have “real Labour “ shown their true colours.
Phoney Tony, who wasn’t really “Left”, managed to get re elected, because he understood that a swing far Left in politics, will lead to being unelectable.
So characters such as Michael Foot, Jeremy Corbyn and Ed Milliband failed because the British public reject far left politics.
So step forward Sir Keir Starmer…..who has the great idea to hide his far left agenda, going as far as lying in public about his support for Jeremy Corbyn, and forgetting to include in his manifesto, all the recent budget tax rises/ spending plans/ National Insurance hikes/ inheritance tax increases/ Winter fuel allowance cuts etc etc etc etc…..

So why am I pleased?.

The disastrous 70’s were a defining term in government for the Labour Party, the only problem is that they were a long time ago, and generations have passed, and the population have forgotten how bad they were…..step forward this lot!!!
In three short months they have become the most unpopular government in years, the most unpopular PM in history, the hypocrisy is staggering, sleaze…… freebie’s…. Cronyism….punching the public in the streets….

In short, if they last 5 years, which I doubt, this is the last Labour government for generations, I want Sir Keir Starmer to carry on doing what he is doing, it’s a car crash and the longer it goes on the better.

I’m off to work now, you know work, so I might miss the single syllable replies, from the usual suspects.

Oh btw, my wife works for Bernardo’s, who are contracted to Central Bedfordshire to provide children’s services for families in need. The lovely Rachel Reeves has just increased National Insurance contributions for businesses, which includes charities, which will push them to the brink financially……..oh dear….
Just remind me….who is the nasty party ?. 🤔

It all depends on how the economy is performing 2027 onwards. They might be making tough decisions early on, hoping things will be much better by the time the next election comes around. There’s no way they would have done this had there been an election next year. It’s a bit like a football manager coming in knowing he has five years to make a difference. He can sit down and work out a five year plan without worrying he’s going to be sacked if positive results aren’t forthcoming.

I’m no Labour fan by the way but lots can change over the next few years - both good and bad

Wishful thinking I fear despite desperately wanting Labour to succeed, which I think they will to some degree. However, in politics you're never far away from the next scandal and it will happen to a political party in power sometime again.

Yes, they just seem to have too much of a hold over government.

That said, the farming thing will hit some of those super-rich very nicely. Some of them have invested heavily in farmland to escape inheritance taxes.

The flip side of that though is that farms that have been handed down within families for generations are now very much at risk - particularly in an industry that struggles to make a living. And I'm talking more if the smaller scale farming here not the huge super farms.

Yes, but I think that's on the margins, most can escape it with decent tax planning because of the one million limit, which can be doubled if there are two parents and another 500k added on if a property is involved too.

So I don't think it's as bad as it might appear.

He isn’t particularly far left but the budget strongly demonstrated that they are going to take from those who are least likely to vote for them.
This budget has fucked up my iht planning in terms of my pension, cost me more in terms of ni contributions and cgt.
In addition those (many who scrimp and scrape to get the money together) have seen vat added to school fees.

That's astonishingly selfish. And by the way it's screwed me over just as much for what it's worth.

But like it or not if you have a large enough pension that you think you are likely to leave much them you are already much better off than the majority of people who have worked hard all their lives and scrimped and saved.

It's long overdue that things got a better balance and we stopped pretending that our services and infrastructure are disintegrating. When that ambulance doesn't turn up for you then maybe you will get it.
