Going away

Going to a away game when your young is a great buzz, exciting and scary, on enemy territory, if you won, what a great day out, negotiating your way back to the station to get the special home, great fun with your mates

Add QPR plastic pitch, Norwich snow ball fight, Chelsea champagne, Crystal Palace 3-3 draw and the scum taking over the town as usual. Biggest regret was missing Cambridge away but was at the old firm game on Glasgow.

22 October 1994. Sheffield Utd away in the cup. I was 16. We won 3-1. My parents were apprehensive about me going. I went with a Sheffield Utd fan from my school on the train from Northampton. We both worked together washing up at a restaurant.

That was a league game. Brian Gayle scored for us in that game and the return game at KR later in the season.

I am probably getting mixed up with a 3-1 away win previous to that

1990/91 we won 3-1 there in the FA Cup. Elstrup scored two and Farrell got the other.

Farrell went on to loan to Northampton at the old County Ground, I saw him play there. The Cobblers fans were expecting a brilliant signing but in all honestly he was awful.

He was an unused sub when I saw Northampton play at Scarborough to do the ground. The highlight of his career was the six a side tournament that we won in Manchester.

You're welcome. It's amazing what's hidden away online if you look around. Just a shame that "that" Graham French goal isn't amongst them.
