    Blackburn Rovers

I see they have been fine £35,000.00 for n incident at their game with Ipswich

The club admitted the charge, which concerned a Blackburn supporter who shouted abuse at assistant referee Paul Hodskinson and threw a bottle at him.

Now I guess the fine is for the bottle but I wonder how much of it relates to giving the lino stick?

If so then every club in the land is likely to get fined at some point.

It'll be for the missile - same as when things boiled over the day Tricky Trev came to town and left the pitch to a hail of plastic bottles

Apparently he was allowed to walk away without the stewards identifying him. So like our fine from the Brighton game it was less about the act and more about the club not being seen to do enough about it.

I guess it depends what was said. Pretty much zero tolerance now on anything homophobic ,racist or sexist. However calling the lino a wanker is a bit of a grey area !!

As you say it must be the bottle incident that’s tipped this over the edge.

However, the authorities would love to slowly start dishing out fines for fans shouting and abusing match officials/the opposition. That’s ultimately their end game.

To play devil's advocate here though, surely there does need to be a line drawn at some point when it comes to abusing officials? Not saying that it should be outlawed completely, but I think we could see a growing shortage of people willing to do the job - and given that VAR has so far basically proved that technology won't replace them, we won't have a game to go and watch. Exactly where that line is drawn is the key question, though.

I think the real problem is that it filters down to the smallest games. IE you hear stories of mums and dads at school games, being idiots.
So although it is generally "harmless" at the big games, (I'm sure some refs love it) there is much more risk of it getting out of hand, on local pitches.

Once CGI and AI technology improves there wont be any need for a crowd full stop, we are only being tolerated as it is at the moment because we provide interesting background noise for TV viewers.

Truth is. the tv money is more important to clubs than your ticket money.

yup no doubting that, and once technology catches up we will be cast aside as well. Virtual stadiums for TV audiences.

But people like controversy and aggravation and it adds to the viewing figures.

So it's AI referees making controversial decisions so AI fans can take exception before being booted in the chest by AI Cantona.

I think they will only be happy when we are all just sat there. The only noise will be the singing of pre agreed songs.

There will be buttons like Chelsea used to have that will play songs over the tannoy for fans to sing along to like some grotesque karaoke.
