Reading the tributes, reminded how Villa won the league title in 81, using a total of 14 players in the league all season.
6 of them played in all 42 league games.
Most Prem sides use more than 14 in one match now.

There is some evidence that shin pads aren't that great when it comes to protecting against the injuries they are supposed to prevent. Shin pads came in to prevent broken shins primarily. But when the force of impact on the shin pad is so great it causes a compound fracture that takes much more time to heal than a simple break. And some professionals dislike wearing them for one reason or another such as comfort or mobility. So wearing tiny pads keeps you legal, and may reduce the risk of a compound fracture.
