Mentioned in PMQs today question from MP Hopkins. Starmer said he would look into problems at Luton and Leagrave.
A passenger lift would be a great start.

      Flitwick needs a lift too
Very poor in this day and age that mainline stations still have accessibility issues

When you look at the brand new Thameslink Brent Cross Station, the one where no one gets on, or gets off a train, it does make you wonder how much money has been wasted on building this enormous white elephant ! It's not even close walking distance, to Brent Cross shopping centre, so I just don't see why it was built at all. Luton Station is an absolute eyesore, and such an embarrassment to the town. Surely the money spent on Brent Cross Station should have been spent on Luton ?

I very occasionally get off at this station in the morning for work and I always wonder the same thing. It is absolutely massive and I am lucky to see more than one fellow passenger in the station.

I thought the main point of it was the start/end of HS2 which has now been scaled back massively.

HS2 was going nowhere near Brent Cross. It was originally going through Old Oak Common to Euston, but that final leg is up in the air.

What a fucking waste of money.

Yeh terrible planning. Don’t suppose they knew that the shopping centre was eventually going to pulled down and rebuilt nearer. Also they probably thought the people moving into the 1000’s of new Units being built around there would use it.

                Brent Cross

The station is joke, and is even yeah further than a Brent Cross underground? As an airport the Elizabeth line runs under London city but does not stop.

                Lifts are planned

                https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/construction-work-begins-on-major-improvements-at-luton-station#:~:text=Network%20Rail%20has%20started%20work,bridge%20and%20three%20lifts%20installed.

I ve no idea what problems were referred to in pmqs but there doesn't appear to be any work underway that suggests the spring 2025 date quoted by network rail is going to be met.

Maybe something else needed priority - luxury pet urinals at St Albans or a champagne and caviar bar at Harpenden possibly.

Anyone old timers remember when Luton had two stations in the town, the old man used to travel from Leighton buzzard to Welwyn via Luton in the 60's.
