    U21 crowd

Fid others find the atmosphere at last nights match really odd ? It obviously had been given a lot of publicity round the infant/junior schools, as there seemed to be lots of different children’s groups attending (as well as Chiltern Youth League teams). However, there was only singing when the drum was banged and I couldn’t hear the brass section in the Kenilworth Stand. As ever the loudspeaker announcements were unable to be made out or heard. My main concern, however, was that people were leaving as early as 20 mins from the end of the game and there seemed to be a rush to go with 10 minutes remaining. By the time of the final whistle more than half the crowd had disappeared. I hope this isn’t a portents of crowds in the future crowds, or perhaps just a one off due to the crowd demographic and it being a school day the next morning !?

Odd in comparison to a normal competitive club game, yes of course. But it was a U21 friendly with a completely different demographic, being a high proportion of kids.

That's a good thing in my view. The game as a whole has become more difficult for kids to go to, with clubs putting up prices and waiting lists for season tickets. I think this is storing up problems for the future.

So it was nice to see there were a lot of kids there and they seemed to have a nice time. Personally I found the air horns annoying. People will have their views on the band, but it's England so to be expected. The football was mildly entertaining with some nice play and some good future prospects. But if we hosted another one next month I doubt I'd bother to go again.

I agree it was good to see younger supporters at the game and like you ELH I am not a fan of the band or air horns. However, I remember going in the 60’s with my rattle and that annoying the older supporters around me, so it is what it is. What I don’t understand is how many left the game so early, apart from hoping it may be due to the comments I made at the end of my post ?

Yes perhaps it was because it was a school night, although where I was sat in the Main Stand I didn't notice many leave before the final whistle. It emptied quicker than usual, but I thought that was because of a lower attendance and it wasn't clear whether the players would stay and clap the fans. They did in the end, but a lot of the crowd had already left.

You do realise that it was an FA game, not a Luton game, Geoff?

All the local schools had free tickets to the paint pot cup final, what an honour to be there (but very few actually paid)
