WTC 9/11

As the anniversary approaches again, another disturbing stat has emerged. On 9/11, 343 FDNY members died. Since that fateful day, 360 further FDNY members have since died from WTC related illnesses. Scary stuff.

Yes and no.
All the dust that was created that day will have contained a fair amount of material that is not good for humans to breathe in, asbestos being an obvious one. ALL members of the services that were on site that day have suffered above average rates of cancer and other pulmonary diseases, my cousin (an NYC cop at the time) included. So the subsequent deaths whilst not a happy story, are not entirely unsurprising.
Thankfully the police and fire dept unions ensure that they get top quality healthcare (said cousin is out the other side of the chemotherapy and seems ok for now), which is not the case for the general public who will also have been exposed to the same material but will have died in greater numbers due to USA's predatory healthcare industry.

I’ve never got that. The richest nation on earth and they don’t have a ‘free at the point of delivery’ health service.
And for the record Farridge himself advocates an insurance based health system though I don’t think the thickies are aware of it.

Pleased to hear the positive news about your cousin CG, although the memories will probably haunt him forever. Like you say, we will never know the final death toll from 9/11. The events from that day still shock me now and I was many miles away at the time. RIP all those poor souls that have died from what happened.
