          Hi Andy Capp

The tories had more than enough time to negotiate with the workers and chose not to

In your experience and of those around you, has society and life prospects improved over the past 14 years?

My kids future looks bleak, and it hasn’t been the fault of the reds..

An experienced First Officer at easyJet is on approx 57k.

A senior first officer is on approx 80k.

A new captain is on 130k.

Some airlines are more, some are less. But an experienced captain is on considerably a lot more money than a train driver.

And they also work a lot less hours not to mention enjoying many more benefits.

Conclusion > It’s just J Crew being a prick again.

OK if you want to become an airline pilot you will need a commercial pilot's license.
To obtain this you will need to take the training course that will take about 2 years, now this will cost about £120,000, and as airlines no longer take on cadet pilots( BA are going to restart this program) you will have to finance this. This training very often takes place at a flight school in USA, Spain or Oxford flight school.
Once you have received the CPL you then have to find a job, once you have been successful you will have to do type training in a simm, once you get a seat you will be earning somewhere in the region of £60,000 a year. it may take many years and flying hours to progress to a captain and even then the days of very high salaries are long gone. good luck with your quest your best bet would be to get on the BA cadet program but it will be oversubscribed many times over.

Along with all the other crap we have to delete/ban many of these every single day.

Quite funny really that when I read the start of this thread I immediately thought of the MoX postings on prices too!

Serious question. What is the point of it?
I mean it seems harmless, even if it is boring. Plus it actually brought out an interesting response.
Any idea why they would do it though ?

An alternative route is to go through the air cadets and RAF. I understand that although that doesn't get you a commercial license it can get you another type of flying licence and with limited additional training can transfer to commercial license. I'm not entirely sure of the process as it depends what type of military planes you might fly but my lad is currently exploring this route.

i know of 3 pilots who did an aircraft engineering apprenticeship with one locally based airline (no longer flying) and then did the flight school route, one had a PPL and obtained his hours in the USA he then joined the RAF as a pilot (apparently the first one to transfer from commercial to military) he was last heard of fly VIPS about into hot spots. there are a number of routes and good luck to all who try.

It's a bit of weird set up but, as far as I'm aware, the CAA make you do their 14 grounds school exams and you have to do a CPL / IR exam.

They accept your hours though, so once through you're considerably more qualified. And considering you already know how to fly, it's not like you have to fork out the entirety of training costs like a newbie with no experience would so it's considerably cheaper, should be able to do it for less than 10k. A few years ago some airlines like Jet2 etc were offering to pay the costs for ex military folk.

Airlines are now more willing to pay for pilot training. A friend has just started with TUI and training at Oxford. He is being paid a salary and bonded with the airline for 5 years post completion of courses.

that is good news, that airlines are now taking responsibility for the training of their pilots instead of saddling them with a very large debt. I know of a number who paid for their training.
