ROI vs England
Posted by Godders on 8/9/2024, 12:56:20
I was very impressed with England last night. The team looked well balanced and played on the front foot, albeit against a relatively poor Ireland side.
But wow, what a lot of hatred from both sides. I think rivalry at international level is one thing but this was different. It’s odd really when you think about it because our two countries share so much in common yet there is so much division. And although religion is part of it all of course, we worship the same God which makes it all the more saddening for me.
Ireland is a wonderful place to visit and every time I have been there, our Irish brothers have been more than welcoming. It’s such a shame to see such hatred at a football match.

Losing mentality borders
Ireland are a great old team by a long way but I thought they played pretty well considering
What I mean by l m is that England were pretty good first half but unfortunately as is often the case with the English national team is that they ‘played within themselves for the entire second half@
That is not acceptable at national level, it was dog shot to watch as well and is the losers mentality Carry on like that, which I garantee they will and will never win anything

But worryingly I could almost image myself writing some of that - although I've only ever been to Ireland once - a day trip to Dublin from Holyhead.

Sadly the English and Orangemen tried to commit genocide in Ireland this set the pattern for the future.
Never recalled Ireland invading England and murdering it's people.

Mainly they want a united Ireland and historically we didn’t help during the potatoe famine.
Didn’t help that the two scorers have represented them at various levels.’

Agreed, whenever I've been to Ireland the people have been welcoming. You do get a different attitude from some of the Irish that have migrated here though.

‘Although religion is part of it of course’ ? It’s all of it ffs as it is in most parts of the world, without religion the world would be a much safer, more tolerant place.

It is not religion, it is the fact that Britain colonised Ireland, took all the good land for several centuries, erased the language and culture etc.
And Rice and Grealish switched sides so they got booed in a Tony Thorpe football rivalry way.
