    Harry haslams Honda

I really don’t get the angst of people criticising others for daring to mention our former manager and his ever growing harem of ex Luton players. I’d say it’s more than acceptable to show an interest in former players and managers particularly when that manager and the players in question have been absolutely crucial in our clubs fantastic rise. I unashamedly look for Charltons results, have the odd look at their message boards and yep have even watched some of the Nathan jones post match interviews (the latest one being classic jones), yes he was an absolute knob jockey leaving for Stoke and made a mistake going to Southampton but he has been arguably the best manager in the clubs history and certainly one of the most important as like it or lump it we had badly stagnated under Sir John.
I wish Nathan and Luton B every success until we play them next season of course.

I agree, he was a fantastic manager for us.

Couple of comments from individuals at the club did make me think the timing of his departure was about right though.

'The players like and respect RE, they didn't really like NJ but all respected him'

'Some of the players were getting sick of his voice'

I suspect his management style is similar to Mourinho. Intense, perfectionist and a tough taskmaster. Like Mourinho, it drives players for three/four years but eventually exhausts everyone around him.

I also think our playing style was sussed out by the opposition and he struggled to adapt it. It was noticeable that sides were sitting a lot deeper against us and rarely played out from the back. It negated our high press and direct approach.

Like you say though, I want him to do well at Charlton and also keep an eye on their results.

Maybe this is part of the problem, RE being too matey with everyone, whereas with NJ, you wouldn’t cross him.

Both totally different characters of course, but I have long thought that RE is too ‘nice’, much in the same way Southgate was.

RE being nice got us promoted to the PL.
NJ being the opposite had us bottle most of the big occasions we were involved in.

As Souness says there is 2 sides to every manager. The side when you are winning and the side when you are losing.

Maybe being nice works when you are winning but doesnt when you are losing?

RE got promoted with NJs squad. Now he is struggling to build his own. Its a bit like the Ray Harford era when he broke pleats squad up after the littlewoods finals....

Yet Jones was never going to get us promoted with that squad

Yep, life's too short for petty grudges (except the ones I hold close to me of course , eg I'm thinking of you FA).

Loved the two periods Jones was here, did seriously well for us and I certainly hope he does okay at Charlton particularly that he looks after the likes of Luke Berry and they get some success with him.

Spot on MG, the first period took us from a squad heading for years of league 2 mid table mediocrity and turned us into a club who could challenge towards the top of the championship. G Jones was nearly given enough time to unpick that but the second spell rescued that and left us one piece away from being a promotion side! Full credit to whoever secured that final piece (Marv Nakamba), now let’s hope we don’t need a third spell to reboot, I’m sure we won’t!
