Germany is to start their own Rwanda scheme and utilise the facilities that the UK Government arranged. What do you think of that?
The most depressing thing about this is our continued focus on the small boat crossings, rather than why these people are prepared to do this, they are after all illegal immigrants putting their lives at extreme risk. The French are right, this is due to our unregulated areas of the economy which happily allows these people entry and the ability to earn money. Regulate these areas and the boats will stop, had rather hoped that Labour would change the narrative to this, rather than continue with the Conservatives line (which frankly always struck me as "our chums would like to make more money and if we fixed the real problem they'd lose out a bit").
I think it was one ex German MP who suggested a watered down version of the Rwanda scheme that would in all probability be rejected by the ruling coalition and most likely not pass through Germany’s constitutional court. Still, it’s a good story.
Of course Germany are considering it. In principle it's a smart idea.
If the UK had standards, it'd realise that living here should be a privilege, earnt through work, rather than a right, just through turning up. The nation doesn't believe this any more.
Having secure borders is a major part of the social contract. Illegally crossing them should be grossly illegal and severely punished. People should be sent back home immediately. If it's unsafe, Rwanda is a good second choice.
Instead, however, the UK has decided that borders don't really matter, and naively believes that any place with a GDP/capita less than the UK is dangerous.
Always thought it's odd that black African countries are considered 'dangerous hellholes' by default by those who claim to be 'anti racist'. It's also odd that they deny Rwanda any agency in the matter.
The whole scheme was a microcosm of the rot and lack of foresight which has plagued the UK. Germany will benefit from the UK's hard work, and the UK will suffer for it.
Every recent government is practically a traitor who has valued their business chums over the people they claim to govern. Absolute traitors.
Paying Rwanda millions in order to swap a couple of thousand boat people for the equivalent number of those deemed too undesirable to be allowed to stay in Rwanda.

The possibility of being sent to Rwanda as opposed to the possibility of drowning in the channel as a deterrent.

Instant deportation upon illegally entering the country is a sound decision. It would've been a VERY useful tool in controlling the UK's levels of migration.
Of course other systems need to be in place.
Still, it seems actually getting things done takes second place to being able to shout "Racist, far right, racist, far right, racist, far right".
Always believed the refugees and asylum seekers should be placed into villages and anywhere with the highest standards of living before the working class towns. Decision makers should lead by example.

I wish there were less small boats - it shouldn’t happen - but I don’t blame the passengers - I blame those responsible for giving them no chance of a life in their homelands.
