Financial Fair Play rules made easy in 90 minutes

Is anybody familiar with The Championship Financial Fair Play Rules for 2024? Is Luton much affected by these?

Basically can make a loss of £13m a season, averaged over a rolling 3 season period. Certain costs are excluded e.g. infrastructure, academy - I think that's all much the same as the premier but a lower limit. Oh and unlike the premier clubs can't just sell the ground to a related party any more.

Doesn't affect Luton as we will be profitable.

Is buying and selling players part of the losses calculation?Do you have to write off the whole buying transfer fee in the year acquired?

No, the fee is amortised over the length of the contract. Basically that means if you sign someone for £6m on a 3 year contract it will be spread £2m for each year.

Selling players is recognised immediately (hence the rush for some clubs to sell before their 30 June financial year end). The profit is the selling price less than remaining amortised value of the contract. So in the previous example if the player was sold after 2 years the amortised value is £2m. If they are sold for £5m then the profit is £3m. Academy players have no cost which is why you might hear selling them referred to as "pure profit".
