It is notable that approximately 40% of fans appear to be satisfied with the 12th position, despite the manager's stated objective of securing promotion.
This raises the question of whether these fans are not paying sufficient attention to the situation or whether they doubt the manager's ability to achieve his stated goal.
I am confused why you find the results "quite telling". The general feeling is that the squad is better than when we were promoted so find it difficult to understand why expectations would be so low

Does anyone know how the three relegated teams have finished in their first season back in the Championship over the past few years?
Last year all 3 teams done well. I remember Sunderland being double relegated in 2018. I suspect all other teams finished in the top half? We are also stronger than when we were two years ago so no way we should be finishing 12th or below.
In the past I understood our limits and, given what we achieved, thought it quite remarkable. The fact that I still had a club to support was more than enough. Given our current situation I do expect us to be competitive. I’m not a youngster (unfortunately).
Sorry do not agree with that..aged fans ..season ticket holder since early 80s..I am dissapointed..with style of play..recruitment..more data anylists who seem to offer nothing..more than that dissapointed with Edwards team selection and no plan B..Monday was a debacle..so was pre season
I’m of the same era as you and completely agree. Don’t get all this looking back, just interested in the game now.
If anyone set aside their local rivalry they would see that a big criticism of Edwards at Watford was their pre season. This was added to by conceding more than a goal a game in his 11 matches with them.
People’s gripes at present are eerily similar to Watford fans about set up and style.
